Happy International Women's Day! 💐 It has now become a tradition for us to focus on the underrepresentation of women in clinical trials for our #internationalwomensday post, but we believe that it is an important issue that should be addressed. Even though cardiovascular diseases are the no.1 cause of death in women, we still haven't reached gender equality, and a large number of devices are still tested majorly on male participants. The problem of underrepresentation is not going completely unnoticed by the regulatory bodies, though. There are already different legal frameworks in place regulating the testing of medical devices, which specify that subjects participating in clinical trials should represent the population groups. International Women's Day can sometimes lose its substance, especially from brands on social media looking to fill a content gap… But at Benenden Health, we dedicate so much resource and care in supporting not only our female members, but our female professionals in the business, too. Probably the most significant in my world recently has been our largest thought leadership and research campaign to date, investigating the UK's Gender Health Gap, where women are experiencing much poorer health outcomes in their personal and professional lives. We surveyed 10,000 women, 5,000 female employees and 1,000 employers to really get to the root of what this healthcare inequality looks like, how it's impacting women and identifying how we can close it for good. Today is International Women's Day 2024! Yesterday we attended the World Economic Forum presentation on the 1 trillion dollar opportunity to close the women's health gap. Myths were busted (women's health is not just reproductive health) and call to actions were had. Providing a 6 step action plan to close the gap, which is fantastic progress. Unfortunately, they did not acknowledge the amazing work of SME's already happening around the world, in the women's health space (SME's account for 99% of all businesses in the EU). These game-changing entrepreneurs working in the 'gender health gap' are more than mere 'stand in's' while we wait for government and big Pharma to plug the gap. Female Health Founders advocates for these purpose led entrepreneurs to be brought into the discussion and to all work together in collaboration to close the gender health gap. Female Health Founders champion the global women's health SME's and are proud to provide a platform and showcase there phenomenal work in making women's health accessible to their communities.
