“What those people did when they violently attacked the Capitol…is a stain on our history…Every one of those sons a bitches who did that, we ought to find them, try them, and send them to jail.”-Karl Rove The fractures inside the Republican Party are deepening as conservative Karl Rove calls for the prosecution of all Jan. 6th insurrectionists. Rove's statement comes as a blow to Trump's coalition, which continues to show signs of breaking. The stakes are high as we face the possibility of a re-elected president who has already attempted a coup and campaigns on a platform of overt fascism. In this moment, we must all be defenders of democracy. We cannot afford to be indifferent, and there is no in-between. We must stand up for our Constitution and the principles it represents. The GOP chose a man who attempted to overturn an election and seize power. All lawyers, including legal conservatives, must be willing to oppose constitutional malfeasance or abdication-regardless of which political party perpetrates. To save our republic, Americans do not have the luxury of being “just” journalists, lawyers, elected officials, farmers, educators, students, co-workers, entertainers, parents, family members, or citizens. As Americans, we can no longer stay silent or remain complacent when our common values that make self-government possible are being attacked. In the fight for our nation’s freedom, we must be defenders of democracy in everything we do. If not, we betray and abandon the Constitution. There is no in-between. Let's come together as Americans and find common ground with our fellow citizens in the right, center, and on the left. The question has been called. The only US president ever to attempt a coup has a too-close-for-comfort chance of being re-elected on a platform of overt fascism. That changes everything. We do not have the luxury of indifference.

In the hallowed halls of Capitol Hill, whispers spread like wildfire, setting off shockwaves through the ranks of Republican lawmakers. News broke of a potential grand jury indictment looming over former President Donald Trump, an indictment directly connected to the dark events of January 6, 2021, and his relentless quest to cling onto power. The gravity of the situation hit hard, especially for those who witnessed the unleashed violence firsthand. Republican lawmakers grappled with their response as they witnessed the violence firsthand. Some GOP senators rushed to Trump's defense, but many held back, cautious of his alleged role in inciting the mob. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell remained silent, having distanced himself from Trump since December 2020. McConnell's top deputies, Senators John Thune and John Cornyn, approached the issue with caution, emphasizing the need to examine the facts and evidence. Senate Republican Conference Chairman John Barrasso accused the Justice Department of political motives, targeting Trump as their most formidable opponent. House Republican leaders, including Speaker Kevin McCarthy and House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, fiercely defended Trump, alleging unequal justice and a politically motivated prosecution. Senate Republicans grappled with the balance between distancing themselves from Trump's potential 2024 bid and upholding equal justice. Senator Mitt Romney, who voted twice to convict Trump in impeachment trials, expressed concerns about attacks on the Justice Department, emphasizing the importance of maintaining public confidence in the justice system. There are three things on the back of this car that tells you everything you need to know about the problems in America right now. First, in the bottom right you have a bumper sticker that suggests that the rule of law in the United States, is insignificant compared to one man’s attempt to 1) incite a violent take over on the United States government, 2) place himself above any citizen who steals top secret documents, 3) avoid prosecution for blatantly attempting to find votes that didn’t exist to overturn a free and fair election. BTW, indictments from a grand jury is determined by a jury of the defendant’s peers. And there were 66 court decisions that legally contradicted any legal argument that a US election was rigged. Second, disregard for the law which the US Constitution lays out for protecting the integrity of America’s primary symbol of our country- the American flag. 4 U.S. Code § 8 - Respect for flag https://lnkd.in/gV3JHj5t This includes a red stripe over a black field. 3) Symbols of “tourists” who attack the US Capitol on 1/6. Flags of all kinds flew from 1/6 insurectionists including those used a spears to attack US Capitol police. AS THE WORLD WATCHES If responsible Republicans want to salvage their dying party from further ruin, thanks to the anti-democratic agenda of Donald Trump and his MAGA movement allies, House Whip Tom Emmer should run for speaker to get whatever Republican votes he can muster in these dog-eat-dog fruitless catfights. If those votes fall short, he can partner up with Democrats to make up for the needed additional votes to win. That's called "bipartisanship." At least it would make it clear to the American people that the GOP majority in the House of Representatives actually cares about their country and them. It would also make it clear to those enemies (like Russia, China and Iran) who want America to fail, that we stand strong together as a leading light for freedom and democracy. It's time for Republicans to fall in line. Let's stop the ridiculous partisan power games and get on with the business of governance. Does that sound like too much to ask? Thank you, Ken Lagasse.

“Whoever incites, sets on foot, assists, or engages in any rebellion or insurrection against the authority of the United States or the laws thereof, or gives aid or comfort thereto, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.” (June 25, 1948, ch. 645, 62 Stat. 808; Pub. Any attempt to subvert election results, the backbone to our democratic process, remains as fresh and horrifying as it was on January 6th. The former president spent weeks after the 2020 election publicly insisting that he had won and looking for ways to remain in power, at one point considering whether to use the apparatus of government to seize voting machines. Ultimately, he encouraged a crowd at a rally near the White House to march to the Capitol as Joseph R. Biden’s electoral victory was being certified. Five people died either shortly before, during, or following the event: one was shot by Capitol Police, another died of a drug overdose, and three died of natural causes. Many people were injured, including 138 police officers. Four officers who responded to the attack died by suicide within seven months. #justice #law #democracy #lawenforcement #business #government

APRIL 22 IS THE DAY AMERICAN DEMOCRACY DIES! Back in December 2023, Jack Smith, Special Counsel in the January 6 coup case, first asked SCOTUS to immediately take up the question of presidential immunity. Finally, 133 days later, SCOTUS made the decision to take up the case but not for another 7 weeks. Makes one wonder what SCOTUS believes it owes Donald Trump but doesn't owe the American people. Even if SCOTUS eventually rules against Trump on the question of presidential immunity, April 22, 2024 is the day that American democracy dies because there should be no hearing at all. Compounding the problem is that SCOTUS also put a stop to the underlying proceedings pending the decision. Interestingly, SCOTUS makes it clear that it is in Trump's pocket. When Trump needed and wanted a case to be heard immediately by SCOTUS (the Colorado ballot case), SCOTUS moved within a month; when Trump needs and wants a delay (the January 6th coup case), SCOTUS delays. Trump's 4 years were the worst presidency in the history of America. Trump closed The US international pandemic response centers. Why? Because Obama opened them so they MUST be bad. WORMING INTO LOW EXPECTATION Besides he signed off on the debate AFTER Biden. Then the propaganda campaign started about how CNN is awful, Jake Tapper insults Trump, Joe is on drugs. He claims fact checkers are setting up to lie about him. 1. Trump signed off on the conditions of the debate. If it was such a BAD DEAL maybe he's not the genius of dealmaking he claims to be. 2. Jake Tapper showed a graphic of the rhetoric Donald Trump uses in relation to the rhetoric Adolf Hitler uses. It is almost identical and covers many of the same racist tropes. Those are facts. That's what "NEWS" is supposed to do: give facts. But Trump only wants Drumpf approved alternate facts. Well luckily the majority of un-MAGA don' have TDS and see that Donald is just attacking - because that is all he does. 3. TRUMP WHITE HOUSE PILL MILL and THE 8-BALL FOUND IN WHITE HOUSE BS: 100,000's of doses of fentanyl, date rape drugs, senility drugs, sleep drugs, anti-sleep uppers and even ketamine were handed out illegally to WHO KNOWS WHO by Trump's own doctors. We have the receipts. Meanwhile, someone didn't reclaim their cocaine from the WHITE HOUSE TOUR and Donald lies to us all, saying 100,000 POUNDS of cocaine was at the White House. 4. A FACT-CHECKER's career lasts as long as they are correct. If they are incorrect they are no longer fact-checkers, but propagandists. Trump is going to lie. I was listening to a current United States Senator talking about the January 6, 2021 attack on our Capitol in Washington, D.C. She said that her "constituents have moved on" and don't think about it anymore, so, she has also. Is that true? Have we just moved on from that domestic attack that killed and injured a number of people and attempted to prevent our vote from counting? I sure hope not. In fact, I think it is good to look at it again, in hindsight, especially in this election year. Not to stir up hatred and division, but as a reminder to us of just how important our election process and the "peaceful transfer of power" is to our country. So, no matter who you support(ed) for President, I ask you to please watch this video of the Select Committee. The Committee reported, in detail, everything that took place, not only on January 6th, but leading up to it. It's really a historical, factual account. If you think you know what happened, you actually don't. You will be surprised, guaranteed. The link I am sharing is the last hearing that summarizes all of the information that they accumulated over several hearings. It includes personal testimonies, recordings and documentation. Most shocking are some of the videos they share that we have not seen before. You will find out who was talking (and messaging) who. What was happening in real time. It gives us insight into the leaders of our country and puts us inside operations of our government. Their work remains relevant to us moving forward.
