🎀 Supporting Our Team Members During Breast Cancer Awareness Month 🎗️ October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to not only raise awareness but also to discuss how we can support our team members facing this challenge. 🌸 As a credit union leader, I understand the importance of fostering a supportive and inclusive work environment. What's crucial to recognize is that managers rarely receive formal training on managing employees dealing with cancer. When a colleague is diagnosed with breast cancer, here are some key steps we can take*: 🎗️Open Communication: Encourage open and empathetic conversations. Let team members know they can talk to you about their needs and concerns. 🎗️Flexible Work Arrangements: Offer flexible work options to accommodate medical appointments and recovery. This can ease the stress of balancing work and health. 🎗️Respect Privacy: Always respect their privacy and confidentiality. Only share information they are comfortable with sharing. 🎗️Emotional Support: Offer emotional support, whether it's through Employee Assistance Programs or just being there to listen. 🎗️Educate Your Team: Provide resources and information on breast cancer and its treatments. Awareness is the first step to empathy. 🎗️Celebrating Resilience: Celebrate their strength and courage. Recognize their accomplishments and milestones in their cancer journey. By fostering a culture of understanding and support, we can help our colleagues facing breast cancer feel valued and empowered. This October, in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, let's take steps to raise awareness and prioritize the wellness of our employees. One in eight women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. As we close out this month, let this post serve as a reminder that early detection can save lives! Just this year, an estimated 297,790 women will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer. When caught early, localized stages, the 5-year relative survival rate is 99% Breast cancer affects not only individuals, but also their families, friends, and colleagues.
