In this article, I speak about our very own speciality, one that is not so common in general engineering. Gundrilling or deep hole drilling – same thing, just different terminology, is the best method to drill small diameter bores from ø2mm – ø25mm. Others will expand upon that range, but for us here at Hone-All, we leave the micro-drilling to the experts, and when the bore is over ø25mm, we transfer over to deep hole boring, which tends to be more competitive unless the job is a one-off / prototype. Project Highlight: Anti-Dust Drilling Machine I’m excited to share a recent project that my teammates and I completed—an Anti-Dust Drilling Machine! This project allowed us to tackle a significant problem in the drilling industry and develop an innovative solution. Here are some key aspects of our project: Identified Problem: During our research, we identified that dust generation from drilling operations poses a major challenge, leading to health hazards for workers and increased maintenance needs for equipment. Innovative Solution: We designed and developed an anti-dust drilling machine to address this issue. Our solution integrates advanced dust collection and filtration systems directly into the drilling apparatus, significantly reducing airborne dust and improving safety. Design and Development: The project involved extensive design work, prototyping, and testing. We utilized CAD software for precise modeling and simulation, and collaborated closely to ensure the machine met performance and safety standards. Implementation and Testing: After building the prototype, we conducted rigorous testing to refine the design and ensure effective dust suppression. The results demonstrated a significant reduction in dust levels during operation. Team Collaboration: This project was a great example of teamwork and collaboration. Each team member brought unique skills and perspectives, which were crucial for overcoming challenges and successfully completing the project. I’m incredibly proud of what we achieved and grateful for the opportunity to work on such a meaningful project.
