Damn it. Today is the last day of the last big project of my career. Well, we do have a closure meeting next week, and a celebration party a few weeks after that, but today is our last day with the vendor. We wrap things up today. It’s time to say goodbye. Normally, at this stage in a multi-year project, my mind begins switching gears as I prepare to turn my attention to my next big assignment. I lose no momentum, and just glide from the project ending to the project starting without missing a single beat. But damn it. Someone told my inner man that I’ll never have a giant project like this again, and that’s changed something inside me, and instead of focusing on the new project—which I do have—my heart is a little bit somewhere else. It’s not like I won’t work hard. I will work very hard. I am incapable of being lazy. But something has changed that ain’t coming back. It’s my professional vision of a journey of three-thousand miles. The sense that there’s still a thousand miles to go, and the need to move forward without relent. That sense out on the trail that my family are counting on me. That I can’t slow down or give up or even rest for very long. But with this big project ending I can now sense the last horizon ahead, and it’s only a fifty miles or so away—just over that last range of low, coastal mountains. I can even smell the ocean now. We’re getting close to the end. If this career were a journey across America, then I’ve just now got faint whiff of the sea. I’ll be at the Pacific Ocean soon, with no professional place further to go. And damn it, my body and inner man knows this, and something about me has changed as a result. I think it’s time for the man sitting beside me on this wagon crossing America to take the reigns and drive. After all, he’s going back across the country without me when the wagons turn around to return east. He’ll then need to drive this wagon alone. It’s not me being lazy that wants him to drive. It’s me being practical, I think. As this younger man needs and deserves the practice navigating and steering before I go, leading the wagons in our little train. I’ll give him the reigns now and watch him drive. And then I think I’ll get off and walk behind for a spell, let the new guy drive for a bit all alone and on his own. I’ll walk back here behind the wagons, keeping up, ready to come forward if I’m called. I’ll just walk here alone in the quiet and the peace, and savor that freshening smell of an approaching sea. #GoingAlone #Reason

This photo doesn’t do the last few days justice. Conferences(Assemble Holidays would be a more appropriate name) often seem to come at a time when you don’t want to be away from your desk etc. BUT wowee was it great to let the hair down over the last few days, get to know people from our sister businesses better and to get the “good oil” from some of the best in the business about what’s helped them be successful in business and to build successful businesses. The common denominators were the importance of hiring good people, with shared values, who will add to an already great culture, be kind and to provide opportunity. Look forward to the next one.

Our company town hall event is tomorrow. It’s exciting to see and hear the plans for our company as we continue forward in our drive to success. I like to say that Raydia Food Group is a young company with 175 years behind it. This is also a time to remember and celebrate the unwavering dedication that defines each and every one of us. In the world of business, success is not merely measured by the numbers on a balance sheet or the accolades on a resume. 🌟 Today, we celebrated the work of one of our Fabulous Fairies and reviewed #goodpractice in the Fairy Family. 🧚♀️✨ I've challenged the team to find as many reasons as possible why the social media post they created was just like Mary Poppins - practically perfect in every way! ☂️👜🌟 As a Franchisor, maintaining high standards for our brand and any content we put out there is crucial. One of the reasons my Fairies value being part of the team is because of our commitment to quality and attention to detail. However, we totally understand that mistakes happen and our newbies also need time to find their feet and be shown how to get things right. 🌱💼 I've experienced some exceptional environments in the past, where feedback was managed positively, and I've also experienced ones where it predominantly focused on mistakes or what not to do. And so I understand how anxiety-provoking and demotivating it can be over time. That's why I've made it a priority to help my Fairies learn how to maintain standards in a solution-focused way and to cultivate a supportive culture that uplifts every team member. 💪🌟 So today we're shining the spotlight on and celebrating the right way to do things, all while infusing a sense of fun! World Braille Day, celebrated since 2019, is observed to raise awareness of the importance of Braille as a means of communication in the full realisation of the human rights for blind and partially sighted people. People with sight loss, just like any other employees, need the right tools to do the job – in this case additional tools that enable tasks to be completed with little or no sight.
