Backlogged doesn't even begin to describe that process. Then there's the legal extortion the DPEs are allowed to get away with. $700+ for a PPL ride is beyond obscene.

Since DPE charges student, students shouldn't be picking their own examiner. You can't pick your own driving test examiner then how come FAA allows flight students to pick their own examiner? FAA need to make a digital App that app should pick an examiner for students. At least the examiner will be able to conduct a fair checkride without fearing. Currently, no examiner will say, but I tell you that they are not happy failing a student, because they want to keep their name in the cool examiner list, unless the examiner doesn't need anymore business s/he will conduct a fair checkride.
