🌍 Did you know there are over 8 billion people living on the planet today, and it's estimated that 10% of the world’s population identifies as LGBTQ? 🌈 🥳 This means when Pete Buttigieg becomes our next 🏳️🌈Vice President, he will lift the opportunities of over 800 million people worldwide! 🌋This monumental step forward is why I’m so excited about the Harris-Buttigieg ticket. 🙏Together, they represent a future where diversity, inclusivity, and equality are at the forefront of our nation’s leadership. Earlier this week, I shared: 📣 "Do you know how much the LGBTQ community contributes to the United States economy? If the LGBTQ community were a country, it would be the 10th largest in the world. This significant economic impact is just one reason why Pete Buttigieg would make a compelling choice for Vice President." Harris – Buttigieg 2024 🤩❤️☀️🏆🔥🙏 📣 "Do you know what this is going to do for LGBTQ rights all over the world? It’s going to get harder and harder to dehumanize someone who is the Vice President of the United States." Harris-Buttigieg 2024 🏳️🌈🤩🏆🙏🔥🎉 Let’s continue to support this incredible team and work towards a brighter, more inclusive future! https://lnkd.in/erSccJjX #HarrisButtigieg2024 #Equality #LGBTQ #Diversity #Inclusion #FutureIsBright

Examining the impact of banning books on queer parenting in public libraries is crucial for several reasons. Firstly, such actions restrict access to resources that can provide support, representation, and validation for LGBTQ+ parents and their families. Banning books with LGBTQ+ themes or characters can contribute to feelings of isolation, shame, and invisibility among queer parents and their children. We chat with Hank Paul Leading Media Professional Manager with Transgender Victoria about this important area for our webpodast with the Australian Sociological Association Furthermore, censoring materials related to queer parenting reinforces harmful stereotypes, perpetuates discrimination, and hinders efforts towards creating inclusive and accepting communities. It sends a message that LGBTQ+ families are not welcome or deserving of representation in public spaces, including libraries that should serve all members of the community. Understanding and addressing the impact of banning books on queer parenting in public libraries is essential for promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion. It allows for the recognition of diverse family structures, experiences, and identities, fostering a sense of belonging and acceptance for LGBTQ+ individuals and families. By examining the effects of censorship on queer parenting materials, libraries can advocate for intellectual freedom, challenge biases, and promote empathy and understanding among library users.

#qualitativeresearch #moderator #interview #focusgroup #softskills Assessing the Soft Skills of Your Moderators Have you ever observed an interview or focus group discussion and found yourself feeling unsettled or unsure about something? Even if you can’t quite put your finger on it, such a feeling is a sign that your moderator lacks the soft skills needed to create a safe sharing environment. If you as an observer are sensing that something is ‘off’, then it is likely that your participants are feeling uncomfortable openly and deeply sharing their experiences. Last year, I worked with a big marketing research firm on an ad campaign testing project. During the first focus group discussion, I observed an internal researcher with decades of moderating experience shush one of the participants, and comment on another participants’ music taste based on their sex and ethnic background. The body language and sharing level of both participants permanently changed after these incidents. It is easy to overlook soft skills in the search for an experienced moderator. Yet, decades of moderating experience do not automatically translate into soft skills. Soft skills have to be assessed more from who the moderator is as a person, and less from who they are as a professional. Participants often tell me after an interview or focus group that I made them feel very comfortable sharing, or that our time together felt like therapy. Such participant experiences are something to strive for. Next time you hire a moderator, consider the following to assess their soft skills: 1. Their demeanour and energy before they even speak. Does their presence alone make you feel calm and at ease? 2. How they express themselves, including eye contact, tone of voice, and body language. Are they engaging? Does it feel like they genuinely care and are trustworthy? 3. How sensitive and attuned they are to the space and happenings around them. Do they tailor their approach to each participant? 4. The empathy, humility, and vulnerability they bring to the discussion. Are they able to meet participants where they are and without judgment? What other soft skills would you add to this list? I welcome you to contact me directly for any of your qualitative research needs. You can also review my website here: https://lnkd.in/grPJYp-K.

As a trans person, I understand that our community is shrouded in mystery, so it can be challenging to know what to say when you meet us. Truth is, we’re all in the same boat — trying to navigate the complexities of human interaction with kindness and respect. When meeting someone from the trans community, a good starting point is simply to treat us as you would anyone else. Let’s try to recognize our humanity, our individuality, and respect our pronouns and identity, as these are integral to who we are. It’s okay to ask questions, but please do so with sensitivity and an open heart. Remember, a little empathy goes a long way. Let’s build bridges, not walls. A simple rule of thumb is if you don’t know how to address someone, just ask the person what they want to be called then call them what they ask. When uncertain, I ask: What are your pronouns? How do I pronounce your name? Am I saying that right? https://lnkd.in/gxscxZER

LONG VIDEO ALERT Coming to your feed today with my face to address a few questions about me and my work that’s come up on and offline. In case you couldn’t watch here are the main three things, plus a fourth wrapped into thing one: 1a. I stand against imperialism and colonialism in all its forms. This is a work-in-progress, but I’m a justice and liberation consultant, focused on land use, so this shouldn’t be a surprise. 1b. I am not anti being a subcontractor. I am anti being un or underpaid, pushed aside on site and made to look bad while serving my people. If you aren’t doing that, you’re fine in my book. 2. This workbook is not the big book I’ve been hyping, but an opportunity to aid my research if you’d like, by working with me together or individually to evaluate if the place you are living is working for you and other Black, queer, disabled, and/or feminists in your city or town. 3. I was so scared that coming out as queer would ruin my career and had ruined my career, I stayed quiet for too long. Plus, I wanted to make sure that as a queer independent contractor partnered with a gender nonconforming person in a traditional job in our industry, I created a survival cushion. However, I’m stepping out and speaking out more! Watch the just under 10 minute video to learn more!

🎥🍿The impact of societal pressures on young boys and men is profound. "Be a man" - two words that hold immense weight. This Friday, I recommend watching "The Mask You Live In" (2015). The film explores breaking free from #traditionalmasculinity, addressing emotions, friendships, objectification, and conflict resolution themes. #Gender stereotypes intersect with ethnic and social tensions, portraying a complex journey of self-discovery and #identity. Have you seen this movie? Share your thoughts 💫 #diversity #inclusion https://lnkd.in/gKCMEsbm
