Hi all, I wanted to share some details about the biggest leap of faith I've ever taken: last summer Megan and I welcomed an Afghan teenage girl into our home. It was the best decision we've ever made, as she has become part of our family. She's an incredible kid - intelligent, adventurous, persistent and hilarious. She plays the violin and dreams of becoming an astronaut. As you may know, both Megan and I served in Afghanistan. After the Taliban took over Kabul and Afghanistan became a living prison for women and girls, Megan in particular decided to take action. Last year, Megan and my sister, Fareeda, started a new charity called Uplifting Afghan Girls (UAG), which is how Sohaila came into our lives. For those who know Megan, it is probably unsurprising that within four months, UAG managed to bring five Afghan girls to the US to study at private high schools, where they obtained full scholarships. The girls are thriving in New York and have just endured the stresses of taking Finals, which is a world away from the stresses they faced of studying at safe houses under Taliban rule. Each girl is placed with a host family who provides a loving and caring home, but not every host family can meet the financial demands. There are also of course continuing costs to provide ongoing support like health care, tutors and summer classes, etc. All this translates to about $20k per year for each girl. I'm helping UAG raise money to pay for the special needs of each girl, and I'd really appreciate your support. You can donate via UAG's website (link below). Any amount you can give would be greatly appreciated! In 2024, 96% of all money raised is projected to go directly to the girls. There is also a proper pitch deck (I had to contribute somehow) with additional details, which I can share if you like. Best, Farook
Love this Farook. 😊
Farook Ahmed please send me the deck. I promise not to mark it up. What you’re doing here is courageous and important, and I’d like to see if I can help.
This is absolutely amazing. Didn't see you at reunions this year - hope we can catch up soon.
