On Tuesday, charity The Blue Cross invested what we understand to be £150,000 into its campaign to ban greyhound racing. The five-year campaign hit its one-year anniversary yesterday. Despite this, the Blue Cross attempted to mislead reporters that the campaign is entirely new as part of an immoral move to place widespread media coverage which our team uncovered. The charity says the sport is "inherently dangerous" for the dogs and have made several quite extraordinary claims against it while refusing to publish any evidence. Through our work at Oxford Stadium, we have repeatedly called on the charity to release its evidence and engage with the sport to understand its present-day operation by attending a fixture and a Greyhound Board of Great Britain licensed training facility. After 10 months without a response, the charity agreed on a live radio broadcast yesterday to attend a facility. They did not confirm if any evidence would be released. Injuries happen, of course they do - they happen in all animal-based sports. So why is the Blue Cross solely targeting greyhound racing - a sport where the dogs are subject to far higher welfare standards than any domestic pet? Thanks to the industry, the greyhound is the most accountable breed of any dog in the UK and the sport's latest 'welfare' stats are: - 95% rehoming rate - 1.23% injury rate - 0.03% fatality rate It was pleasing to get these points across to the mainstream media yesterday who were all invited to the stadium's weekly trials session. It’s really refreshing to see an organisation taking a public stand about such an industry. So few people know about the over-supply and subsequent wastage of animals, and how race horses show up at dogger pens and slaughter yards - often in appalling condition - after their racing careers. When it comes to organisational vision (an organisation’s north star or blue sky (thinking)), I like teams to think of and establish it in this way: “If there were no limitations, what would the ideal scenario be/ world look like if was up to your organisation?” This doesn’t only have to be in context of the industry/ sector your organisation works in. It can be in relation to a particular (or broader) topic or theme, collective of people, an entity, system or place, or a combination of these things. In the case of NGO Recruitment, on their website they talk about cultural fit [being one of their principles/ values]. And even though this is directed at the cultural fit of candidates, I suggest they could extend this to their own cultural fit with the mission and values of their clients - and a collective vision they have of what they want the world to look like.

Imagine adapting to the same COVID-19 pandemic as the rest of us AND the aftermath of a massive volcano eruption—all within a few years. Now imagine that community’s stray animal population. This is the reality faced by St. Vincent and the dedicated team at the Vincentian Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (VSPCA). We can help this community and its animals finally see life on the other side of tragedy, but only if we all work together. The people of St. Vincent are a picture of strength and resilience - but they need our help to get their stray population back on track. The VSPCA is a beacon of hope for animals on the island. As the sole animal welfare organization, they tirelessly work to improve the lives of animals through: Spay/Neuter Clinics: Controlling the stray animal population is crucial, and the VSPCA's upcoming clinic in the first week of April is a critical step forward. Humane Education Programs: Educating the community on responsible pet ownership is critical to creating lasting positive change. Animal Rescue & Rehabilitation: The VSPCA provides a haven for animals in need, offering them medical care, love, and a chance at a forever home. Kimberley Khodakhah VMD, CPC , ELI-MP (who spearheads the upcoming spay/neuter clinic), and I recently visited St. Vincent to assess the situation and document the VSPCA's vital work. I created this video to raise awareness for the VSPCA and help raise funds for Spay/Neuter Clinics. We can't do it alone. The VSPCA is entirely volunteer-run, and the recent challenges have strained their resources. So this is where you come in!
