Remember the retired esports brand Rogue? Well it’s coming back now. Infinite Reality, the parent company of ReKTGlobal who operated the Rogue brand, stated the branding will be brought back following the split with Spanish esports org KOI. Given KOI is leaving the LEC, this gives Rogue a chance to reclaim its spot as a champion in the LEC. Previously, Rogue had won the LEC Summer Finals Championship, so this is a welcomed return for Rogue fans. It seems rebranding will also take place across Infinite Reality’s Rocket League and R6 esports teams too, so the community will see a known esports brand return. There have been esports mergers in the past, notably the OpTic Gaming x Envy Gaming merger that saw the retirement of Envy Gaming’s branding. This is absolutely massive for LoL Esports. Another signal that the beginning of the end of "esports winter" is here. The reality is, the franchise model didn't pan out. Teams across the world were struggling financially after the extreme valuations got out of whack, the endless VC money ended, the "this is gonna be football tomorrow" nonsense hype died down, many frauds/grifters were exposed (though a handful still remain inexplicably), reality set in, and the bubble popped. Riot used these learnings when they created VCT, and now they are applying many of the same successful principals to LoL Esports to better align the goals of all parties involved. tldr: -New partnership model similar to VCT (but slots can still be sold) -Rev share shift from sponsorship -> digital content sales (and lots more team/esports digital items) -Digital sales aggregate into a Global Revenue Pool (GRP) -GRP split: 50% to General Shares to tier 1 teams, 35% Competitive Shares based on performance, 15% Fandom Shares to reward building a large fanbase -50% of direct revenues (sponsorship, media, etc.) profit also added to GRP Seems like a solid time to "buy the dip".
