Site Zero in Sweden has recently made the announcement that it will be opening its plastic recycling plant, which has now been evolved into a state-of-the-art facility. The plant has been expanded and upgraded through the addition of new technology. A collaboration between Site Zero and Sutco, over the Svensk Plaståtervinning polymer sorting plant has led to the integration of TOMRA’s advanced sorting technology. It's plastic free July and Innovate UK has been supporting a plastic recycling innovator to grow ♻️ Based in London, LUMA-iD innovation & development is a product design and manufacturing consultancy that focuses on planet-friendly designs. In 2023, LUMA-iD began working with Ian Pateman, an Innovation and Growth Specialist at Innovate UK Business Growth during the development of its product aimed at revolutionising household recycling: the Flexyb.in. The Flexyb.in is a simple, low-cost solution for collecting flexible plastics in the home. It is designed to compact waste to hold two weeks' worth of average household plastic waste and is specifically designed for the new UK recycling pilot scheme. Ian provided bespoke support, helping to develop the value proposition and achieve further growth for the business. He advised the team on how to connect and negotiate with a UK-based supplier, which enabled it to refine several iterations of the product. The team won a grant from the ISCF Smart Sustainable Plastic Packaging competiton, focusing on flexible plastic packaging waste at home worth £32,000, for its project which will accelerate the commercialisation of the project. Ian also offered intellectual property advice to protect its assets, and helped develop its recruitment strategy. As a result of working with Innovate UK Business Growth, LUMA-iD achieved patent-pending status for its innovation, and is now undergoing trials with Reading Council. Mark Little, Co-founder and Director of LUMA-iD, praised the support received: “The mentoring support we received from our Innovation and Growth Specialist during the project was incredible: to be able to shoot ideas and receive the support and feedback was just incredible.
