"Resource Use is the forgotten dimension of the triple planetary crisis". Luckily, I met many leaders thinking critically about just that - the environmental, social, and economic impacts of material production and consumption on #GlobalRemanufacturingDay at REMADE Institute's Circular Economy and Technology Summit. From machine learning for textile recycling to reuse cases for decommissioned wind turbines, it's inspiring to see global, cross-sector solutions being developed!
"We will not get there by tweaking at the margins—we need systemic solutions for systemic problems," says Hans Bruyninckx, a member of the UN Environment Programme's International Resource Panel and former executive director of the European Environment Agency. #REMADEconference2024

While Goal 16 centres on governance and justice, its indirect influence on climate action is undeniable: 🌟. Conflict prevention reduces climate-related disputes. 🌟. Global cooperation supports climate agreements. 🌟. Good governance enforces climate policies. 🌟. Accountability optimizes climate finance. 🌟. Access to justice ensures fairness. 🌟. Inclusive decision-making enhances climate strategies. 🌟. Peace efforts diminish climate-induced conflicts. 🌍 Numerous life-threatening challenges already beset our world. Rather than exacerbate these issues, we need to unite to coexist in peace and authentic sustainability. #Sustainability #Peace #Collaboration #ClimateAction #SDGs #Goal16 #ClimateChange #justice #governance

The second remarks I delivered at the ECOSOC Youth Forum session on “Financing Our Future: Road To A Robust Climate Finance System For Present And Future Generations.” I underscored the important role that youth play in change, including on climate action. For IDLO, climate justice is key and we understand that to mean: 1. Empowering vulnerable communities and people so that they claim their rights; 2. Investing in people-centered laws and institutions to promote climate action; 3. Strengthening justice systems that can resolve climate-related disputes, including on land; 4. Harness the rule of law for intergenerational equity; and 4. Finance, including of loss and damage to compensate those that bear little responsibility for climate change but face the brunt of its impacts. #ClimateJustice #YouthEmpowerment #RuleOfLaw #SDG13 #ClimateAction #YOUTH2030 #GlobalGoals #SDG16

This repory reveals that decisive actions must be taken in the European Union (EU) to avoid irreversible environmental and dangerous social tipping points as well as maintain the promise of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the objectives of the Paris Climate Agreement. At the current rate, a third of SDG targets will not be achieved by the EU by 2030, with significant difference!

Mayors under the initiative of Mike Bloomberg and the COP 28 presidency in the context of LCAS took a bold decision to launch the CHAMP (Coalition for High Ambition Multilevel Partnerships). The priority objective of this is for national governments to include subnational action in the next round of NDCs due in 2025 in consultation with cities. Increasing Financial means to be directed to the cities, strengthening local adaptation and resilience are some of the key areas to be addressed urgently. There is no time to lose! Cities and regions should stand up! Citizens are in the center of global concern in terms of combating inequalities in the green transition process. Some mayors more than others are in the front line. Let’s hope for the best!

🚨 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐢𝐱 𝐚 𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐤𝐞𝐧 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩... ...𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐠𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 🌍 Today, on #WorldEnvironmentDay, we're publishing the results of our new members' survey that reveal a united call for the next government to reset the local-national relationship on #ClimateAction. 🤝 🗳️ With the election just weeks away, 77% say it's the last chance to empower local authorities to keep the UK's climate goals on track. 🌳 88% support a new statutory Net Zero duty for councils, but only if it comes with the necessary powers and funding to drive transformative local delivery. 💰 More than 90% want to see the short-term, competitive funding system reformed to facilitate long-term, strategic planning. 📽️ We have translated that — see Christopher Hammond's video — into five key asks for the next government: 1️⃣ A new devolution bill with a Net Zero legal duty 2️⃣ A new Local Net Zero Delivery Authority 3️⃣ Funding reform 4️⃣ Planning reform 5️⃣ Support for public engagement ⏰ Christopher says: "Local leaders are ready for a new era of collaborative local-national climate leadership. The stakes couldn't be higher – without transformative action in the next parliament, our climate targets will vanish over the horizon.“ What is your number one ask of the next government?👇
