PAI Partners to Acquire majority stake in Beautynova for €330mn In a significant move in the consumer beauty space, private equity firms PAI Partners and Bluegem Capital Partners , have announced PAI's agreement to acquire 51% of Beautynova, a leading global professional haircare platform, from Bluegem. The €330mn deal will see PAI becoming the majority shareholder with a controlling stake, while Bluegem will retain a significant shareholding alongside a syndicate of Bluegem co-investors. Headquartered in Italy, Beautynova boasts a premium portfolio of brands, including milk_shake®, z.one concept™, and Medavita. With over 18,000 formulas, it is a key developer of professional haircare products across treatment, coloring, and styling, exporting to more than 70 countries. Under Bluegem's ownership since 2020, Beautynova has witnessed remarkable growth, more than tripling its sales and expanding geographically, particularly in the US, which now accounts for 18% of its sales. #Rosie has announced her departure from her #beautybrand, #RoseInc. The company filed for bankruptcy in August 2023 and was subsequently acquired by another company. Consequently, the supermodel is no longer the face of the brand or involved in its promotion. This situation reaffirms my belief that the sales of one’s product must be supported by professional activity. For example, although I consider Rosie a style and success icon, her brand did not survive with her at the helm. This underscores that a personal brand requires more than just a public figure; it is built on skills, character, personal qualities, achievements, and moral values. Throughout 2023, beauty dealmakers were faced with one of the most challenging market environments in over a decade. Dealmaking bottomed out in Q3, when the BeautyMatter Deal Index tracked only 50 deals during the quarter and a record 10 bankruptcies and shutdowns. Activity picked up substantially, however, in Q4, perhaps an indication of a pent-up deal pipeline and renewed optimism as we head into 2024. Throughout 2023, beauty dealmakers were faced with one of the most challenging market environments in over a decade. 2024 BeautyMatter Deal Index Highlights: ⭐ For the full year 2023 we tracked 258 deals a 23.2% decline versus the 336 tracked in 2022. ⭐ 28 bankruptcies and shutdowns during the year, more than those tracked in 2020, 2021, and 2022 combined, with 18 tracked in the back half of 2023. ⭐ Beauty deal activity was M&A related versus growth investments, which typically dominate activity. 49 deals, or 53.3% of deal activity, were M&A related, a 69.0% increase over last year. ⭐ 2023 deal activity was down across almost every category tracked with the exception of fragrance (+55.6%) and health + wellness (+18.8%). https://lnkd.in/e_A7qsfb #dealflow #beautybusiness #mergersandacquisitions #venturecapital #privateequity #investments
