Crew Commander & On-Call Firefighter at Hertfordshire Fire Rescue Service

What a weekend! I had the opportunity to attend the amazing Women in the Fire Service UK Training and Development Event at the The Fire Service College . It was a chance to network, push yourself out your comfort zone, try new things and meet other likeminded people from all different UK Fire Services. I took part in 3 workshops. Incident Command, Urban Search and Rescue (USAR), and Road Traffic Collision (RTC). They were all so interesting and a great chance for me to practice my situational awareness, decision making, leadership, command and practical skills. All in a safe space environment with experienced and knowledgeable instructors. A highlight of my weekend was Urban Search and Rescue workshop. We were fortunate to receive instruction from two specialist firefighters who operated during the devastating earthquakes in Turkey. They shared their experiences of searching through collapsed buildings and rescuing people trapped under meters of concrete rubble. They utilised specialised equipment and their incredible search dogs to carry out these life-saving operations. I’ve come away from this weekend feeling inspired and motivated by all the encouraging people I met. You can achieve anything you put your mind and hard work to! 💪🏽🧑🏼🚒🚨🚒 Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service

It’d be amazing to hear more about this Felicity Kenny - we’re relaunching Protect and this sounds like just the kind of write-up we’d be keen to include. I’ll drop you an email if that’s ok
