Is Mountain Biking dying? 🤔 In short, no. But people are making the most of new ways to ride off-road. 📉 General interest in your old faithful analogue mountain bike is down, while many turn to gravel or E-MTB's to get their dirt fix. Our backgrounds and personal experiences influence our affiliation, knowledge, and skills related to cycling. Happy bike day! One thing I miss greatly from living in Sweden is the walking and cycling infrastructure in cities. When I lived in Umeå in northern Sweden, I rarely needed car or other transport to get me to work or downtown. Biking was the most convenient and often the fastest way of transport thanks to the great and safe infrastructure for biking. Living in around the same city-size in Slovakia, I can say that biking in cities is very difficult, inconvenient, and often very hazardous. No such infrastructure was planned back in the past and it´s very difficult to make safe and convenient cycling paths within the current infrastructure. In addition, and sadly, it seems that large part of the society cannot see the downs of the current state and the benefits of a better, and more sustainable, cycling infrastructure. I hope the paradigm will shift one day, the sooner the better 🚲 #bike #mobility #cycling #WorldCycleDay #sustainable

Bike lanes are not “solutions” in themselves but components in a mobility system. When cycling networks are measured only in terms of lane mileage, the evaluation can mislead and the results may disappoint. In “When Bicycle Lanes Are Not Enough,” Gail Jennings, Brett Petzer, and Ezra Goldman investigate Cape Town’s noble ambition to become a cycling city – and the mixed results. Recognizing cycling as a component in a sociotechnical mobility system and using Bogotá and Copenhagen as comparative reference points, Jennings, Petzer and Goldman reveal the means by which cities can markedly boost cycling’s share in everyday mobility.

We need to adopt these three steps.
