I got invited to a wedding... by a candidate! How often does that happen?! Mind you, I didn't know this girl until she applied to one of our jobs. We have been exchanging messages since December 2023 - more frequently after I interviewed her the same month. Her name is Tin. Tin is friends with a Tax Accountant we helped land a job March of last year (who I'm still in contact with, too). This is what happens if we make our candidates' experience great - they advocate for us and refer their talented friends. Recruiting is often seen as a numbers game - how many candidates can you source, screen, and hire in the shortest amount of time. But behind those metrics are real people looking for jobs, opportunities, and fulfillment. As recruiters, it's easy to get caught up in hitting targets and filling roles. But we must not forget the human side of recruiting. Isn't it exciting? Getting to meet new people everyday and knowing their life stories, even better, being a part of their stories? 73% of our respondents were satisfied in their current role. 75% of respondents felt they had job security. There has been a shift in the number of engaged job seekers in the market, with 80% actively looking to make their next career move and 20% remain passive. Notably, this trend is prevalent among senior finance professionals or financial controller level and above. These driven individuals are already commanding salaries of £75k+ and are on the hunt for their next career defining move.

I’ve been reflecting this week on how much I love my job.   Recruiters often get a bad rap…I think this is due to the quality of the outreach and follow up.  How many recruiting emails do you get per day? Are they even relevant?   I can’t tell you how many I get from other recruiting companies that solicit me for jobs in functions I haven’t been in for several years. No, I’m not interested in your Sr. Tax Accountant job, as I haven’t worked in tax since 2017.   Don’t let this sway you from working with third-party Recruiters though. So many of us genuinely enjoy making connections with candidates and do our research on their experience before reaching out. Not a fan of wasting your time or mine! I usually take about 15 minutes before each call to look up all the companies this candidate has worked at so I can ask specific and relevant questions.  This also helps me describe their experience to the hiring manager that much better. Bridging the gap between talent and companies is only a portion of the pie.  The real joy in this field is what you don’t see on paper: getting to know candidates and what they’d like to do in their next career move.  Understanding what would make them feel more confident and comfortable, and connecting them with opportunities that could change their lives.
