We got it done! Though a long haul navigating various site challenges, Brice recently delivered on the ASARCO Slag Peninsula Shoreline Cap Repair and Outfall Replacement in Tacoma, Washington. ASARCO is a 90-acre site that once housed sawmills, a lead smelter, and a copper refinery. The copper smelter closed its doors in 1985, and arsenic production ceased in 1986, leading to the facility's shutdown. The site was eventually designated an EPA Superfund site. Over the years, the contaminated site shoreline then underwent a transformation including a shoreline cap that shaped the landscape into a vibrant recreational waterfront public space in what is now known as Point Ruston Village and the Dune Peninsula. However, over time, the eastern shoreline cap eroded, revealing the slag underneath. The outfall replacement presented significant challenges. Per contract specifications, the work had to be performed during low tide. Untimely weather events pushed the outfall repair schedule into the fall. Ultimately, the Brice field team was faced with working the “graveyard shift” in accordance with the low tide schedule to get the job done. It was a carefully engineered operation. Monitoring was a priority, with pre- and post-construction surveys covering aspects like anchor damage, marine life, and water quality. Through our age-old “get it done” ethos, we prevailed and overcame the various complexities. Today, the communities of Tacoma and Ruston continue to enjoy the remarkable transformation of a Superfund Site into beautiful waterfront recreational space. Cheers to the Brice field team for a job well done. #Proud2BeBrice #ANC #smallbusiness #aecindustry

Sometimes, you just get after it and forget that your contract excludes alligator cracks! Alligator cracks are the industries outlier problem. All contractors exclude alligator cracks! Why? Because too much rubber in one area looks terrible and fails more easily. Gator Pave solves this problem. But Gator Pave needs additional dry time. It’s thick. It’s awesome. With this rain, why wait to fill the asphalt cracks? Reach out and we can come out and help you protect your sub-base from erosion.
