Lesson in customer service. It is my opinion that very few businesses exude premium customer service better than the Ritz Carlton. I recently took my family on a long work trip culminating in a quick vacation stop as we returned to Florida. Returning from a four-week training at one of our dealer clients (yes we do that!), we stopped at the Amelia Island, Florida, Ritz Carlton for Mother's Day weekend. As a 20-year Marriott member, we use our benefits for our family trips. As some know, our son Benjamin is rocking an extra 21st chromosome, AKA he has Down syndrome. He also has OCD/ADHD, so disruptions to his routine make things challenging sometimes. Also, he has a service dog and a couple of stuffed animals he sleeps with. We realized Ben had left his favorite stuffy at the hotel when we returned home. My bride called the hotel the following day and spoke to the most fantastic man named Wayne. He promptly found Guider—he’s a service dog stuffy from Two Blind Brothers Clothing Company. He overnighted the package, had a postcard that said: "Ben, your buddy had so much fun with you at the hotel he wanted to stay a few more days to work on his tan! He was missing you, so we sent him home right away. Your Friend, Wayne - Loss Prevention" The postcard was an overhead picture of the pool, with a chair circled and a note that said "my chair." It also included a beautifully framed picture of the stuffy in the chair with sunglasses on. If we could pay close attention to this and apply this genuine courtesy to our platforms, we would all be significantly more successful. What did it cost? Dead cost, maybe $30-50, not counting Wayne's time spent staging and taking the picture, getting the frame, framing, and packaging the contents. The results? **Empathy vs Sympathy: Do You Know the Difference? 🤔** I always thought everyone in Customer Service understood the difference—until recently. Quick story time. During a recent trip to Arkansas to lead some Advisor and Leader training, our Rental vehicle broke down about halfway between Little Rock and Memphis. After calling the roadside number, we were told to walk along the side of the road to the nearest exit before they could get us a ride. So, we walked to a truck stop and waited for six hours. ⏳ We finally got a Lyft to the Little Rock airport, where we were promised a reserved car. When we approached the rental desk and explained our ordeal, emphasizing that we were stranded in a town with no one to call for help, the rental person simply stated, "We don't have any cars." 🚗❌ We reiterated what the roadside person told us and were met with, "Doesn't matter what they said, we don't have any cars." 🙄 At that moment, I truly understood the difference between sympathy and empathy. The lack of customer service taught me a valuable lesson that day. *UNPLEASANT EXPERIENCE WITH FURLENCO - BEWARE OF POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE & POTENTIAL FRAUD* Furlenco I feel compelled to share my recent experience with Furlenco furniture rental company, in the hope that it might serve as a cautionary tale for others. I recently reached the end of my furniture subscription with Furlenco and encountered significant challenges when attempting to return the rented items as I moved houses. Despite my attempts to contact them via email over the past week, I have received no response. Furthermore, the automated system repeatedly schedules return pickups for "day after tomorrow," leaving me in a frustrating loop without any human assistance. This ordeal has left me deeply disappointed with Furlenco's customer service, or lack thereof. It is disheartening to realize that they do not provide a helpline for immediate assistance, leaving customers stranded with unresolved issues. Upon discussing my situation with friends, I discovered that I am not alone in facing such difficulties. It appears that this might be a deliberate tactic employed by Furlenco to prolong services and potentially deduct more money from customers' accounts through continued rentals. I urge you to exercise caution if considering Furlenco for your furniture rental needs.
