I have had a few people contact me regarding what we at Moorabool are looking for in relation to the just advertised GM role. Below is a summary of some key items we will be looking for in the successful candidate. The most consistent question I have received relates to Local Government experience. While it may help, it is not a prerequisite. Too much of something is not always a good thing. The previous occupant of the role has worked with Moorabool for 4 years and had no prior Local Government Experience. The role has become vacant as they secured a GM role at a larger metro council closer to where they live. Other items – ·        We work hard - Since 2018 our Capital works delivery has risen from $11.6m to $51.3m in 2023, we have a Budget spend of $56.4m for 2024 – our staffing has only increased by 9% over this period. ·        We advocate strongly - Total rate income in 2018 was $29.5m and is now $35.8m, yet Capital spend has increased by $44.8m and total revenue has increase by $43m over the same time period. ·        We respect different opinions - We are looking for someone willing to participate at the exec level beyond portfolio responsibilities. ·        We know what we must do - We have a council plan with ambitious targets – this is what we mark ourselves against. ·        We seek to lead in many areas. o  We use technology to serve a clear purpose, we do not just follow. o  Where we cannot deliver ourselves, we will seek to partner. o  When required we will take an appropriate view on risk.

Today, we (myself and Saffron Hardy) embarked on our weekly drops, making our usual rounds. To our surprise, at every single stop, we were greeted by the same sign: "Reverse Parking Only." Initially, we were puzzled, but then we started to appreciate the rationale behind it. What does it mean? Essentially, it requires drivers to back into parking spaces rather than pulling in forward. 📋 Reverse parking offers several benefits, especially in large work car parks. First, it enhances safety by providing a clear view of the road when exiting the space, reducing the risk of collisions. 🚗💥 Second, it streamlines the process of loading and unloading vehicles, making it quicker and more efficient. 🚚📦 Finally, it contributes to better overall traffic flow within the car park, minimizing congestion and potential accidents. Been rolling mainline asphalt the last few months to help fill in while we’ve been short handed. It’s been a blast and a nice break from the office! - I wish every office worker could/would get out and work with the bluecollar folks and expose themselves to what this work looks like. As an estimator, it helps me better understand how to design and/or bid a job. As a user of roads, this helps me gain appreciation for work zones, the speed limits in them, and the time it takes to build a job - “Road construction takes forever” says the average citizen. I would encourage you to go tour a job site and see why and gain a new perspective - This type of work is amazing and the guys who build our roads are incredible. Society traditionally looks down on this type of work, but why? You can’t get to your fancy office or order Amazon and DoorDash without roads. Somebody has to build them and those that have tried would probably tell you it’s a cool way to make a living - #construction #bluecollar #asphalt #dirtyanddriven

How to ruin your date nights in 3 easy steps... 1) Fire your property manager 2) Personally lease up your local apartment vacancies 3) Forget your traveling when your new tenants move in The joy of hands on management - we let go of an underperforming property manager in their inability to attract qualified tenants. Within two weeks of letting them go, I signed leases on the two rent-ready vacancies on an apartment in downtown Seattle. That's great news! The bad news is taking on the day-to-day management including the rekey process. Sure, I could have hired that out at a substantial premium; however, my wife and I decided to have a productive date night instead of stressing ourselves out prior to upcoming travel. Find yourself a partner who is committed to you and your journey. The best news - we tried a new restaurant in Seattle's University District and she LOVED it. The night was a success.
