Safety starts with your mindset, which is why every morning each of our field crews fill out an individual FOCUS (Focus, Observe, Check, Use, Sign) form to help them identify and mitigate safety risks. One way to mitigate risks, as apprentice Trever Sleight shares, is to make sure you're using the right tool for the job. #nationalconstructionsafetyweek #ConstructionSafety #HuntElectric #SafetyWeek2024

I help entrepreneurs automate parts of their work so they can scale without increasing admin AND win back their time | Zapier | Owner @ HiTide.
You do it! I'm all up for getting our machines to do more for us. A lot of software and systems can be "left to get on with it" but many work setups mean you and your staff still have to do a lot of hand-holding. After a while, it's time to take off the training wheels. We'll still keep an eye on what they're up to but more as a supervisory role. Spotting these "hand-holding" tasks can be tricky though. We get so conditioned to the way we work. A good starting point is asking - is the thing you're doing on the computer a creative task? And - is your personal touch required? If both of these are no then there's a good chance that some software can be doing it for you or, at least more of it. And when we automate and reduce our time spent on these tasks we free a load to focus on work that's more creative and that truly needs us as an individual. ...and have more time to enjoy this fine British summer 😎

Are traditions pushing people out of the trades? If you have completed an apprenticeship you know the kinds of hazing, bullying, and generally demeaning behavior we all had to bear through in order to garner those bits of wisdom. We all were the whipping boys for those old grizzled journeyman who knew better than those office “idiots” how to run the job. Most importantly we put up with the kind of treatment that has now been found to be unhealthy for anyone to deal with. As a tradesman are you continuing this tradition of abuse and harassment? Are you actively making it a requirement that they put up with this kind of abuse in order to further themselves in the trades? Or are you like me and making your generation the last that must suffer mistreatment in order to garner the education that we all enter the trades to gain. What are you doing to make sure that talented young men and women are not pushed out of your trade by arbitrary abuse. What are you doing to lift up the generation that will one day replace us on the jobsite?

Please refresh my memory as I may have this wrong. #1. Didn't ED DROTT build the Gantry until the late 70's & #2. Myron Glickman came up with the Inter-Model attachment device? I believe, (until the late 1970's) all M-Jack did was Purchase the Gantries from Ed Drott then, attach the Inter-Model devices and market them as a package? History lesson ( as an X-employee & how I remember it ) .. If memory serves me correctly ( and yes I'm old now ) in the late 1970's, when Drott became an acquired company by Case Corp, Mi-Jack offered to purchased the Gantry line from Case and was turned down only to be offered the Gantry line at a latter date when Case couldn't figure out what to do with it. By then, the DROTT design engineers had left Drott and started Marine Lifts. Side note: DROTT's Mobile crane designers left and started Shuttle Lift ( the clone yard-crane ) to the Go-Devil Is this "History" correct as remembered? . .

Following on from Yesterday, below a video using our SubaStencil Inspection station, when zooming in you really can see this stencil is not clean at all, even it comes out of a clean and ready for production slot. 20+ years ago to be an SMT and or THT operator was a 4-year apprenticeship in Europe, the final test you had to pass run the SMT line production with zero defect at the school you did the training course. These days the schools or education department does not offer these courses anymore, secondly most schools do not have a SMT line on which they could do training, all is done web-based showing YouTube videos if you are lucky. Most training staff also have no hands-on experience on real SMT machinery. A dirty stencil is only a small piece in this puzzle of the low educated in SMT production and processes. A well-educated person can manually clean a stencil and pass the cleanliness test of <4 particles per 50mm x 50mm, however it takes the best part of 1 hour to do it right, you do 20 changeovers per day = 20 hours of manual stencil cleaning, or a well-priced Kolb PSE 300 stencil cleaning machine which takes 15 min and guarantees 100% success. Going through many factories, looking at processes and process issues, I always wonder if senior managers know what the cost of a dirty stencil is to their organization.
