I am thrilled to share this exciting news - The Government Office of the Republic of Lithuania and The Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) announced the winner of the design contest for the Baltic Pavilion at the international exhibition “Expo 2025 Osaka”. The winning concept features a unique interactive installation that creates a meditative space, highlighting the interaction between nature, people, and technology. The centerpiece of the design is a green glass wall symbolizing our planet, including the Baltic green forests. Using unique technology, condensation forms on the glass, turning the wall into an interactive platform where every visitor is invited to leave their message. This prompts philosophical reflections on the footprints we leave on the planet during our lives. Each message fades after a few minutes, creating a new platform for the next symbolic ‘footprints,’ thus symbolizing the 21st-century challenge of building a socially responsible and environmentally friendly society. This intuitive experience resonates emotionally with every visitor, regardless of gender, age, language, and religion. It invites us to unite for a better future. Visitors to the pavilion will be invited on a sensory journey through the Baltic region, providing an unforgettable experience for all senses: the exhibition will be enveloped in the scents of the Baltic forests and soil, complemented by specially composed musical accompaniment from Latvia and Lithuania. The pavilion entrance will be remarkable as well: it is made of smart glass that can change its optical properties. Led by the Circulars, the circular exhibition features three immersive rooms, for which we contributed the media content as a partner of the German Pavilion Consortium: “Circular Living”: Design the future city playfully with the AI Dream Machine, interacting with visitors. “Circular Economy”: Step into a universe of circularity, experiencing a 360-degree narrative of sustainable practices. Cumulus Budapest 2024 P/References of Design conference calling for proposals The next bi-annual Cumulus conference P/REFERENCES OF DESIGN will be hosted in Budapest, Hungary and organized by Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME) between 15-17 May 2024. The Cumulus Budapest 2024 - P/REREFENCES OF DESIGN aims to explore contemporary design culture by examining its current tensions and parallels. Participants are encouraged to share their perspectives on the ongoing "revaluation of values" which concern established references and competing preferences in design. The conference will delve into various perspectives of strategic design, systems thinking, co-creation and more-than-human design. The event will also examine tensions and parallels that guide us towards contemporary practices which harness both human and machine creativity, and navigate the social, physical, and virtual realms of design. A Glimpse of the 2024 Frankfurt Exhibition The 2024 Frankfurt exhibition focused on the electrification and smart trends in the lighting and construction sectors, driving the industry towards a more sustainable direction. With three main agenda themes of "Connectivity", "Sustainability", and "Work+Life", this exhibition attracted over two thousand exhibitors showcasing their innovative solutions and development trends. Notably, the participation of Chinese exhibitors has significantly increased from 200 in 2022 to nearly 700 this year, representing a third of the total exhibitors. The presence of numerous engineering clients was observed, indicating a strong interest from this sector. While there were not many new products, linear lights and magnetic suction lights remained highly popular. Larger companies shifted their focus from product displays to showcasing integrated systems. The product trends emphasized modularity, linearity, compactness, and intelligence, with a focus on energy efficiency, health, and environmental friendliness. Many lighting fixtures achieved energy savings through intelligent systems, while others improved chip luminous efficacy. The emphasis on smart applications based on environmental and human needs was also evident. In summary, the exhibition highlighted the application of new materials and interdisciplinary material usage, the emphasis on product texture and artistry, the trend towards miniaturization and flexible installation, and the attention to lighting scenes and details.
