Independent Fire Safety Services Limited. Fire door installation qualifications. NVQ qualifications. Fire door inspections under a UKAS accredited inspection scheme. Basically a fire door nerd!
Still playing catch up - so Day 2 of my offering of a free course. See yesterdays post repeated. Fire Door Safety Week is upon us! It's been a hectic last couple of days so I'm playing catch up here, but bare with me please. I harp on about the regular 'failings' of TPC installations that my team and I witness and the need for personal qualifications when it comes to fire door installers, so in the spirit of Fire Door Safety Week I'm offering a completely free candidate place on the installation qualification course provided via www.firedooracademy.co.uk today yesterday, today and Friday - 3 places in total. This includes Part I, the theory element and also Part II, the on site assessment which is crucial to any suitable and sufficient installation qualification. If interested please comment on the thread (no PM's please) and tomorrow morning I will do a random draw - and then start a new thread for tomorrow etc. Please post: Your name. Company (if applicable). Nearest town / city where you are located at. The 'rules'. 1. Only 1 per place per company / organisation. 2. Individuals can enter, but bosses / owners / managers can on behalf of their company. 3. Repeat entries on Thursday & Friday are permitted. No hidden agenda here, no hidden fees or costs, just a genuine desire to create a more demonstrably skilled installer. Yesterdays winner was Warren Smith of SBS Carpentry. #firedooracademy #firedoorsafetyweek #firedoorinstallationtraining

There is an art to plumbing. It takes a skilled hand and sharp mind to handle complex piping systems. Their proper installation and maintenance are essential for the day-to-day operation of any building. Plumbers' tasks can range from simple fixes like replacing a worn-out washer to complex installations of new fixtures and drain lines. Here's what you'll do as a plumber: Fixing leaks: The classic leaky pipe under the sink. This may seem like a small repair, but water bills can quickly spiral when a dripping faucet isn't addressed. Even worse, a burst pipe can cause major flooding. Clearing clogs: Clogged drains are a serious inconvenience and a job only plumbers have the right tools for. Installing fixtures: From toilets and sinks to dishwashers and water heaters, plumbers install a wide range of fixtures, both utilitarian and decorative. Maintaining systems: Regular maintenance tasks like inspecting pipes, checking water pressure, and cleaning drains prevent future problems and extend the lifespan of plumbing systems. If you're interested in pursuing a career in plumbing, check out apprenticeship opportunities or sign up for classes at a local trade school.💧🚿 #PlumbingSkills #SkilledTrades #PipeMasters #FixingLeaks #ClogBusters #FixtureInstallation #MaintenanceMatters #PlumbingLife #WaterWonders #TradeSchoolJourney #PlumberInTraining #ApprenticeshipOpportunities #CareerInPlumbing #WaterWorks #SkilledHands #PlumbingArtistry

‘Tis the season—for holiday safety reminders. Several types of hazards are created, often unintentionally, by holiday decorations and festivities during the holiday season. As you decorate, please keep these tips in mind: -Do not leave decorative lighting on when not in the classroom, especially at night. -Avoid candy-like decorations that may appear to be a tempting treat for younger students. -Use only shatterproof, unbreakable decorative items. Make a commitment this Fire Door Safety Week, running from 25 to 29 September 2023... If you are a building owner or operator with EITHER BS 476 Part 22 or BS EN 1634-1 tested fire doors do everything that the British Woodworking Federation advocates in checking your Fire Doors. It is of course now a requirement that you do this, at least every three months, under the Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022: fire door guidance, issued in September 2023 in accordance with Article 50 of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. https://lnkd.in/eNFmfN5a Then seriously think about going further... It is my advice that if you are building new, or replacing fire doors in existing buildings, that you make the transition from BS 476 Part 22 tested product to those tested to BS EN 1634-1. It is a better product test standard, and you will future proof yourself from the overdue transition away from the BS 476 series that Government is hopefully about to mandate. It is easy to make the transition for smoke rated fire doors from BS 476 Part 31.1 because that is already subsumed into BS EN 1634-3. Indeed all the aspects of the BS 476 series that were considered strong by other authorities across Europe have already been subsumed into the standards that look towards the BS EN 13501 series for classifications and their Extended Field of Application (EXAP) Rules. I see no insurmountable problems presenting a reason to persist with the BS 476 series. That is an argument. On the contrary, for an airing of problems facing the "bespoke" UK fire door sector if abandoning BS 476 Part 22 watch the ASFPTV "Sparking Interest Podcast" Episode 14 - British Woodworking Federation: Fire Door Challenges & Building Safety Insights. With Kevin Underwood of BWF in conversation with Mike Ward and Niall Rowan of ASFP. https://lnkd.in/ewgBXZPk Such problems are also construction industry opportunities to raise the technical rigour of the fire door sector, among others. Kevin Underwood briefly mentions RADAR 1, which was a study called Research on the Approved Document And Revision made in 2000, with Project 1 Part 1 Fire Resistance here: https://lnkd.in/ee4ZwJ9x It seems to me that the transition should have happened in 2002, and that 20 years later it is very much time to abandon the BS 476 series, and the UK practice of "assessments in lieu of testing". The EXAP approach can be made to work, and European market minded manufacturers are already working to the BS EN 13501 series. Table C1 in Appendix C of Approved Document Part B (2019 as amended 2020 and 2022) makes a false equivalence in England. Scotland does the same in the Technical Handbook 2023. BS 8214 Timber-based fire door assemblies. Code of practice needs to be corrected to stop equating BS 476 Part 22 with BS EN 1634-1. The transition from the BS 476 series was consulted upon in March 2023. https://lnkd.in/eectkkbq It would be good to see the end of BS 476 by FDSW 2024 https://lnkd.in/e3JCj8-2

💜I partner with single-family rental operators to build triple-win Resident Experience programs💜 + I acquire, design, and operate funky short term rentals in Raleigh,NC with my wife
You catch more flies with honey 🍯 We know rewarding residents Leads to positive outcomes But many operators skim over this one 🔑 piece Let me explain When I clean the kitchen My fiance makes a big deal about it Because she knows I’ll do anything And I mean anything, for a compliment And to AVOID being reprimanded But my version of a clean kitchen Ain’t the same as hers So you can imagine how I felt When I skipped over to the couch For my “cleaning cookie” 🍪 And then I got a swift tongue lashing About proper cleaning etiquite So, I was then educated On proper Kitchen expectations Triple Win Operators know Rewarding positive resident outcomes Leads to higher compliance to the lease! But the most important part? EDUCATION👨🎓 Setting proper expectations Closing the compliance gap And showing residents How the operator Is supporting their ability to be a great resident Anyone else have to reward their significant other to condition proper chore behavior 😅?
