Gresyl and Jeff Yepez are both nurses who were able to buy a family home through the Hometown Heroes Program. “Having your own home when you are starting a family it’s a really great help because you get to have that space that you can raise your child and not worrying about the environment.” https://lnkd.in/gQEtYZTS The Hometown Heroes Program was created to help Florida’s workforce purchase a home in the communities where they work. Community support workers. Reintegration workers. Registered practical nurses. Child and youth workers. Housing stability workers. All these community health workers are the backbone of our health care system, providing a range of services that either keep people out of hospital or that are simply not available anywhere else. They deserve to be compensated fairly. If we don’t act, the staffing crisis will result in reduced services, longer waits, and more unneeded emergency department visits. #CloseTheWageGap #ONHealth #ForUsForYou

Helping Executives Operationalize Workplace Violence Prevention. 🔸Healthcare Workforce Safety and Sustainability - Operational Efficiency and Quality Consultant | Keynote Speaker | Author | Recovering ICU Nurse |🔸
I really wish Healthcare would stop pushing this “Zero-Tolerance” idea. There is no such thing. And it will only further divide a nursing leaders relationship with their staff. As long as we are still caring for humans at the bedside, we will never have zero violence. People are emotional creatures. People are sick with chemical imbalances and poorly managed psychological disorders. Challenging behavior will always exist. As long as we still have EMTALA, we have to care for people even if they are violent. Having a Zero Tolerance policy is impractical and I think nurse leaders are looking for practical solutions so here are some of my #top #tips 1. Talk about it. - create an environment where you are actively discussing the fact that the violence is here, it’s not ideal and listen to what the staff are saying. 2. Do not over relate. - oh yeah when I was a new nurse I was hit too. That dismisses the feelings and let’s the culture of acceptance continue. You can say, I know how distressing this is. I’ve been there but it’s not right. It’s not OK. I’m so sorry. 3. Offer tangible support - don’t just say, what could we do next time to avoid this? Say, I can cover your assignment for a few moments while you take a break. Do you need the chaplain or to go to the ER to get checked out? Then at a later date, debrief in a way that is encouraging and kind. Even if the employee needs coaching, right after thr incident is not the best time. Be sure to follow me for more expert tips. PeopleBunch surveyed practitioners who have moved on from one nursery to another and asked them why they moved, 62% said it was due to poor management. PeopleBunch can help managers by reducing the amount of administrative mandatory paperwork, allowing managers to use their time more effectively and doing what they enjoy the most.
