What an eventful week in Texas! The first three days were dedicated to the American Petroleum Institute’s annual event, where Shell graciously invited me to participate in a panel discussion on "Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence and their Applications in Asset Integrity." The panel, chaired by Sonnie Sun from Shell, gathered industry experts from Chevron, BP, Occidental Petroleum, Abyss Solutions, and Trueflaw. The discussion, lasting over one and a half hours, was both engaging and energizing. We delved into how Oil & Gas operators navigate challenges in production uptime, HSE compliance, and sustainability requirements. Imagery signature interpretation and digital automations to enhance human analysis took center stage in our conversation. We also tackled practical solutions for predicting pipe corrosions, especially in cladded or underground scenarios. The audience, comprising amazing individuals, contributed to a lively and dynamic session. It was refreshing to witness the deep integration of artificial intelligence in the minds of various Oil Field Service Providers. The reminiscence of IBM’s Deep Blue and Deeper Blue machines, which famously defeated Garry Kasparov, added an extra layer of recognition. We even touched upon the pre-GPT era with Watson for Debate and Watson at Jeopardy, and I was pleasantly surprised by the level of awareness among the audience. The enthusiasm for GPT solutions was palpable throughout the session. We need to brace ourself with increasing demands in the future.
