Congratulations to AOV Champion FD Pipefitter Brian Glen (left), pictured with FD HSE Mo Noaman (right) Brian demonstrated keen observation skills when he noticed two nylon slings wrapped around a column on F Piperack. What caught his attention was the fact that these slings were secured around two sharp plates. Without hesitation, Brian promptly shared his findings with us, enabling us to quickly notify the responsible contractor. It's crucial to acknowledge that in the history of rigging failures, a significant portion has been attributed to sling failures caused by sharp edges. This incident underscores the importance of using softeners, whether the slings serve as primary or secondary rigging devices. Thank you, Brian, for your vigilant support of our AOV program! Your proactive approach contributes significantly to maintaining a safe working environme #Maintenance #Oil #Manufacturing #Distribution #Warehousing #Food #Plant

Didn't it do well! Cleared a sump in just a few days. A rough estimate is that this unit will remove upto about 300ml in an hour. They are the best I've ever used and benefit a lot from being very simple, and having a woven belt that has remarkable affinity for oil and resists blinding exceptionally well. Whatever oil Skimmer is used, common things I see are; - not switched on. - not positioned correctly - belts not in contact with the scraper - feeding removed oil back into the sump - containers overflowing - blinded ineffective belts never replaced. - fixed permanently to one part of a sump and never rotated around compartments. There really is no downside to staying on top of your tramp oil removal. #hse #coolantcare #cncmachining #cncmachinist #cncmaintenance #cnclathe #cncmilling #dipslidetesting

TOOLBOX TUESDAY Cranes in the United States go through strict inspection criteria annually before they are allowed to be put into service. This ensures that all working and structural components of the crane are in proper and safe working order. According to OSHA 1926.550 “A thorough annual inspection of the hoisting machinery shall be made by a competent person, or by a government or private agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor.” At Commonwealth Crane Service all of our cranes are up to date on their annual inspections, preformed by a reputable third party company. Along with annual, we require monthly as well as pre-job daily inspections to ensure all safety devices and operating aids are functioning properly. Shown above is an example of what a daily inspection checklist may look like. #toolboxtuesday #commonwealthcrane #iuoelocal4 #owneroperator #crane #cranegang #boston #operator #peterbilt #nationalcrane #boomtruck #nbt45

Do you use or do you plan to use Safety Helmets on your site according the colours and functions ? What are the advantages? Safety helmet colours according this scheme are : YELLOW - for Labourer, Heavy-duty, Operations and Constructions GREY - Site Visitors RED - FireFighters BROWN - Welders, high heat operations BLUE - Electricians and Technical Operators GREEN - Safety Officers PINK - Female Workers. Used also in some companies as an additional Helmet BLACK - for site supervisors. ORANGE - for slingers and signallers. WHITE - for site managers, competent operatives and vehicle marshalls (distinguished by the wearing of a different coloured high-visibility vest). Not bad as idea to affect helmet 🪖 to workers according their department/categories and the colour🤔 Is it make sense ? I think the main issue is to have always available the required colours 😅😅 What do you think ? #Safety #Helmet #Colour #HSE #PPE #Mining #Site #Mine

Don't forget to check your rigging equipment before lifting a load. This hook was taken out of service by one of our Service Technicians because it didn't meet OSHA/ASME criteria. Following are ASME standards for Hook Removal Criteria. WiscoLift offers Safe Lifting Practices seminars at your facility so that your riggers and crane operators know what OSHA requires them to inspect before each lift. For more information, call our office at 800-242-3477. Remember, "Working Safe is Working Smart." #riggingequipment #safety #OSHA #ASME

OSHA notes that riggers must be: 1-Properly trained on the hazards associated with rigging jobs. 2-Qualified and able to complywith all procedures. 3-Aware of where the crane is operating (surface should be level and firm enough to support the crane and load). 4-Familiar with rigging techniques and equipment (attached pictures). 5-Able to anticipate issues before they happen. 6-Able to stop a job immediately if unsafe conditions exist. 7-Aware of the weight of the load and the capacities of the crane and any rigging gear. When lifting equipment, OSHA offers multiple tips, including: 1-Riggers should keep their hands, fingers and feet clear of pinch points. 2-Be aware of stacked material when lifting to avoid knocking it over with a swinging load. 3-Check for overhead power lines before lifting a load. 4-Warn nearby workers before raising, lowering or swinging a load. 5-When setting a load down, check that the landing area is clear and set it down slowly. #Good_and_Bad_Rigging_practices #osha #ioshmanagingsafely #safetyalways #liftingequipment #liftingoperations

Daily Safety Tip for Contractors - Hot Work - What it is and What Safety Precautions are Required? Hot work applies to cutting, welding, brazing, soldering, grinding, pipe thawing, or torch-applied roofing operations. A hot work permit should be required before hot work is allowed and issued only once the necessary safety precautions are implemented. It should be signed by the supervisor who issued it. A pre-work evaluation must be performed to adequately access the operation and to identify the required controls. Fire protection must be provided, and a fire watch should stand by during the hot work to extinguish sparks that could ignite combustibles, to adjust the positions of protective shields or tarps, and if necessary, to sound an alarm if a fire occurs. Hot work permits should be posted at the work site and should expire no later than the end of the supervisor's shift who issued the permit. The supervisor should inspect the work site 30 minutes after work is complete (60 minutes for torch-applied roofing work). #hotwork #safety #preworkevaluation
