Ken received a ‘wafer’ check valve from the warehouse. He was checking the spring tension on the dual flappers when he noticed the one flapper was not returning to the closed position. He rotated the valve a quarter turn so the flapper pin was in the vertical position and noticed the flapper would close in this position. These check valves function in a certain orientation and positions as per the manufacturer. We raised this great catch by Ken to Suncor to investigate further. Thanks, Ken, for sharing this with us! #SafetyFirst #WorkplaceSafety #ProactiveSafety #TeamPlayer #EmployeeRecognition #Dedication #Commitment #SafetyAwareness #Leadership #HardWorkPaysOff #Gratitude #SecureWorkEnvironment #SafetyCulture #EmployeeAppreciation #madewithpredisai

What are the protective walls you have built around yourself when feeling vulnerable or scared? We all at some point in our life hold ourselves back from new experiences and people for the fear of being hurt. It is key to discern when these walls are helping us to create a safe self-container that helps us heal and/or when they become a crutch to our growth. Emotional walls are like the shell of a lobster. The shell that once was a protection, now becomes tight and is the biggest hold back to its growth. The lobster must crack its tight shell to enable its development. During this process its flesh gets exposed to salty water and that helps it grow and become stronger while the new shell is produced. Like the lobster, we must learn to shed away our shell / protective walls so that we can progress and grow personally and professionally in our life. That will help us to say yes to new experiences, new relationships and continue to magnify our mission in the world. #growth #purpose #courage #leadership

Shitty supervisors are more detrimental to their team that shitty employees…. Have you taken some time to check yourself? Maybe you’re stuck in a rut because your outside life is impacting you at work? Maybe you’re upper admin is making things more difficult for you? Maybe you had a shitty call that you cannot get out of your head? Taking some time to make sure you’re your best self will help bring out the best of the people you serve.
A tough self-reflection question for the leaders on here. As a leader, it is up to you to lead the charge on department morale. Your officers, firefighters, medics, dispatchers need to see a genuine interest in their development. Don't just publicly check the box and privately keep the status quo that has kept your department's morale in the hole.
