It is 2 years since the Qld Floods of 2022. Since that time, according to the Department of Home Affairs website, they have provided assistance in a further 25 Disasters in Qld. https://lnkd.in/gtiBT-Ds That averages a Disaster declared somewhere in Qld every 5-6 weeks. A good reminder that: 1. The recovery is long. (There are still cases from the Townsville 2019 Floods on-going.) 2. People will need on-going support both in the immediate aftermath and in the longer tail of recovery. 3. Lower socio-economic groups usually need even more assistance as they tend to be less financially able to protect themselves against the effects of a disaster through things like insurance and resilience measures. 4. Systems need to be easier to navigate and more trauma informed. Everybody that experiences a disaster is at risk of experiencing a trauma response.
