Spoke with 95bfm about our petition calling for an end to the Ram Raid Bill. The Bill creates a false perception that it is capable of increasing community safety. However, by fast tracking kids into the criminal justice system, it risks fracturing our communities further and causing greater harm in our communities. Many of our political leaders are not being honest with us about how we solve these challenges. Harsher, more punitive approaches don't prevent the behaviour the community is concerned about, because these are not actions or decisions being made in rationale, adult, developed minds. This behaviour is arising from traumatized children, children who are disabled, who are being abused, who are in poverty, who are mentally unwell, children who need our love and support. That may be hard to swallow, especially if your family or business has suffered also, but it doesn’t make it any less true. In the end, if we want stronger, more connected communities, we won't build them through revenge based policies that ignore the evidence and contribute to the problem. You can't solve an issue by ignoring what is causing it in the first place. There's a lot we can do to respond to the challenges our communities are facing, the Ram Raid Bill is not the on. Sign and share our petition and than join us at Parliament on the 26th June, 12pm: https://lnkd.in/gaZw9Ace https://lnkd.in/g8wxnji8

The average cost of child care for two children is higher than the cost of rent in all 50 states. Let that sink in. We need answers, solutions, and action from our leaders. We demand to know how they plan to combat the child care crisis and relieve the burden on American families. If this is important to you, sign the petition here: https://lnkd.in/gzWup8NV Moms First

Early intervention and prevention is key to slowing the flow of children and families into child protection. There are so many ways to support them at the places they regularly attend, where they trust the people around them - schools, child care centres, maternal and child health clinics, GPs, even hairdressers! It is also staring us in the face since the publication of #ACMS data that 1 in 4 people experience 3-5 types of abuse: physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, neglect, or exposure to domestic violence. This cannot be ignored. That is why we need the federal government to host a NATIONAL SUMMIT that addresses not only prevention of child sexual abuse but also the prevention of harm from all forms of child abuse and neglect. Our Sector Engagement Manager, Lauren’s call to action for more financial investment into early intervention, was featured in the Sunday Telegraph last week. Currently, 90 per cent of child protection funding goes towards the children and families who are already in the system, leaving only 10 per cent for early intervention and prevention. This is unsustainable by any financial, policy or moral definition. As the peak body for early intervention and prevention child protection, we will continue to lobby the government for more funding allocated to the early intervention and prevention sector. Fams NSW shared a great post about early intervention, especially relevant after the recent damning report on child protection in New South Wales: https://lnkd.in/eJKeqaTv The report points out that the child protection system is not working well, costing too much in crises, and not improving outcomes for kids and families facing complex issues. Given these problems, should we make it a priority to include the voices of young people in these discussions? I reckon we should work together to codesign solutions that go beyond just using evidence (evidence based practice) and focus also on what really works in practice (practice based evidence). I'd love to hear your thoughts on why involving children and young people is important in creating effective solutions for the future. #ChildProtection #EarlyIntervention #FamsNSW #YouthVoices #CoDesignSolutions #EvidenceInPractice #NSWReport #FutureSolutions #livedexperience
