Our View: The unsung heroes of school lunch

I agree, Yet in our school our special needs kids and others are freely given non fat high sugar foods as well as highly processed non scratch made foods with high sugar and low fat items. Wish we could go back to the Michele Obama mandates for healthier high fat low sugar options to help with their behavioral issues and continue the brain health and repair. At one time the teachers were giving our brain injured child 3-4 go-gurt tubes daily and saying we didn't feed her. She eats nonstop at home most times and doesn't get a lot of added sugars, this led to severe self injury and outbursts at home as well as school. Our middle child who has autism had to have many fillings and teeth pulled at 4 because unknown to us she was been rewarded for behavior and schoolwork with M&Ms We were blamed for her behavior issues and the teeth rotting even though we didn't give her massive amounts of sugar. The school regularly sends high sugar no nutritional value chocolate milks and milks home with them to help us over the weekend but they usually go to waste because they prefer whole milk and a higher fat diet.
