Program Manager at Toronto's Workforce Funder Collaborative| Working at the intersection of workforce development, philanthropy and systems change
I am beyond excited to share a significant milestone in my professional journey—I have joined the Workforce Funder Collaborative (FC), a pioneering initiative by the Community Foundations of Canada, as a Program Manager. 🌟 This role is particularly special to me as it marks my first job here in Canada, adding a new layer of excitement to the journey. What makes it even more remarkable is that it aligns perfectly with the last 8 years of my professional career, allowing me to continue my passion for driving positive change in workforce development, systems change, philanthropy, and grantmaking 🌟More than just a career move, this opportunity came to me through the most revolutionary, refreshing, and transparent job posting I have ever encountered. The hiring experience was unparalleled—a testament to the commitment of Executive Director Surabhi Jain to redefining trust, power balance, and equity in the workplace. Some key highlights from my hiring experience as a new immigrant in Canada: - A game-changing job posting that re-defined the norm- by replacing the conventional resume submission with a dynamic approach. It encouraged me to explain my skill set and experiences through a series of questions and answers, allowing me an opportunity to bring my soft skills to the forefront - Before the interviews, specific themes and topics were shared, providing me with valuable preparation time to reflect on pertinent examples from my past. This thoughtful approach enabled me to present my authentic self during the conversational interviews, fostering a mutual exchange of insights between myself and the interviewer -Lastly, the entire process demonstrated a profound respect for my time, affirming my value as much as that of the employer Thank you Surabhi for an exceptional hiring experience and I am looking forward to making meaningful contributions, learning more, and breaking down barriers in workforce development. #WorkforceFunderCollaborative #WorkforceDevelopment #Philanthropy #NewBeginnings #EquityInAction #transformativehiring #immigranthiringexperience

Embracing International Experience: A Call to Hiring Managers... Navigating the job market as an experienced professional from another country presents unique challenges. Many skilled individuals like us bring a wealth of experience and diverse skills gained abroad, yet face obstacles in securing their dream jobs due to a perceived need for additional local experience. This issue is particularly prevalent for talented professionals seeking opportunities in Canada. Despite their proven abilities and readiness to exceed expectations, many of these individuals encounter rejection. Their international experience is often undervalued simply because it was earned outside of Canada. It’s crucial to recognize that talent, dedication, and expertise are not confined by geographical boundaries. As an experienced Human Resources Coordinator, "we have the power to create more inclusive hiring practices. Let's focus on the value that diversity brings to our teams. By recognizing and valuing experiences and skills acquired globally, we can tap into a richer talent pool and foster a more innovative and dynamic workplace". “Again, an interview process does not give you the perfect candidate you are looking for, but it does help you better know who you are hiring as the most suitable candidate for the position, Knowing that every vice president had a chance". In the interview process, let’s prioritize candidates’ willingness to learn, improve, and work hard over the pursuit of a ‘perfect’ candidate. Give qualified individuals the opportunity to shine, regardless of where their experience was acquired. Embracing this mindset not only benefits the candidates but also strengthens our organizations. Together, let’s champion diversity, inclusivity, and the recognition of international experience in our hiring practices. #DiversityInHiring #InclusiveWorkplace #GlobalTalent #HR #HiringManagers #CareerGrowth #Innovation This message aims to resonate with hiring managers and professionals on LinkedIn, encouraging a more inclusive approach to recognizing international experience in the hiring process. Do you agree 👍?

🌟 Embracing Change in the Canadian Job Market 🌟 Dear LinkedIn community, Hope this post finds you all well! As an employer navigating the dynamic landscape of the Canadian job market, I wanted to share some insights into the challenges we've been facing in today's rapidly evolving business environment. 👨💻 Talent Shortage: One of the most pressing issues is the ongoing struggle to find and attract skilled talent. The demand for specific skills often outpaces the available workforce, making it crucial for employers to be innovative in their recruitment strategies. 🔄 Rapid Technological Advancements: The fast-paced nature of technological advancements poses both opportunities and challenges. Adapting to new technologies is essential, but it also requires upskilling our existing workforce and finding individuals who possess the right blend of technical and soft skills. 🌍 Remote Work Dynamics: The shift towards remote work has been significant, bringing about a paradigm shift in how teams collaborate. While this opens up a global talent pool, it also requires a reevaluation of our traditional work structures and the implementation of effective remote work policies. 💡 Diversity and Inclusion: Fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace is not just a moral imperative but also a strategic necessity. Creating an environment that values different perspectives and backgrounds is key to driving innovation and sustainable growth. 💼 Agile Leadership: The need for agile leadership has never been more apparent. Leaders must be adaptable, open to change, and able to steer their organizations through uncertainty. This requires continuous learning and a willingness to embrace new leadership styles. 🌐 Global Economic Uncertainty: The Canadian job market is not immune to global economic fluctuations. Navigating through uncertain times requires a strategic approach, including diversifying revenue streams and ensuring financial resilience. 🤝 Collaboration and Networking: Building strong networks and collaborations within the industry is essential. By fostering partnerships, sharing best practices, and collaborating on solutions, we can collectively address the challenges faced by employers in the current job market. 🚀 As employers, we are in a unique position to shape the future of work in Canada. By addressing these challenges head-on, we can create an environment that nurtures talent, fosters innovation, and contributes to the overall success of our businesses and the Canadian economy. Let's continue the conversation in the comments! I'm eager to hear your thoughts and insights on navigating the Canadian job market in today's transformative era. #CanadianJobMarket #EmployerPerspective #FutureOfWork #Leadership #TalentManagement

Exploring All Things Ocean and Water Connection | Community for Enviro-Social Change Specialist | Divemaster
I am honoured to be joining Jasmine Anouna with Letícia Schuli in The Bloom and to be getting to know them and the authentic community of Bloomers, all united in joy, growth and development 🌱 💙. Here’s why I applied as well as the poem mentioned 🥳… ✨A refreshing human-led approach to recruitment, where the notion of shaming ourselves for a non-traditional path and exploration was turned on its head. ✨A space my younger self so desperately needed and envisioned. ✨A celebration of and action around the courage to point out the irony of the social impact space. ✨Feeling heard and seen in a way I haven’t for over a decade, which now knowing how my poetry was received, makes my heart glow even more. ✨Remote and flexible, many of us function better like this. Without further ado, the poem ✍🏼: Straight to the point, An eleven-year global career journey for enviro-social impact, Homogenous, often white, often male, in places I’ve joint, Ironic. A team not reflective of its forward-thinking cause has become fact, The solution? Diverse spaces and relationships, reciprocal, joyous and true, For I believe, it’s the only way that social impact can truly bloom. From indifferent to compassionate, a number to a name, From doom scrolling to blooming, anything less would be a shame. Matchmaking members united by a common cause, Making the world a better place, amplified by connection, collaboration and shared resource, A mission I embody and applaud. The Lesson 👀? Stop beating yourself up for being curious and living an intuition-led, soul-aligned life. Your commitment to multi-dimensional growth, reflected in your career journey, will be SO appreciated by the right employer, team and well, people 💥. #socialimpact #jobsearch #jobseekers #storytelling #poetry

Among the 300,000 who saw my viral hiring post, were these 2 phenomenal women 💙 Here's my takeaways as a hiring manager & why they stood out👇🏾 Not because of... ❌ years of experience ❌ fancy CV ❌ education level ❌ expert knowledge. I help nonprofit executives lead organizational transformation with clarity, inspiring stakeholders and empowering internal teams
"I wish I didn't have to hire you..." Maybe I should’ve been offended when a nonprofit CEO said this to me. But I wasn’t. As leaders, we've all been there: - Wishing our community fully grasped our org’s role and impact - Longing for our teams to rally behind our 'why' - Hoping our strategic plans would seamlessly translate into action - Envisioning our future so clearly, yet struggling to convey it to others But let's face it: alignment, clarity, and resonance don't materialize out of thin air. They require intentional strategy and expert guidance. That's when I was ever-so-reluctantly hired. 👀 Using the organization’s fresh strategic plan, I: 1. Crafted messaging that resonated far beyond the boardroom 2. Identified key stakeholders often overlooked 3. Provided a plan to overhaul communications, from funding decks to program descriptions to the website What did he say when our time together came to an end? "This was exactly what we needed. I wish I didn't have to hire you, but I'm so glad I did." ➡ What's an example of an investment you were reluctant to make at first, but it ended up being exactly what you needed? — Nonprofit leaders, are you tired of hoping things will just 'click'? As a change communications consultant for nonprofits, I specialize in bridging the gap between your current reality and your aspirations. Together, we'll craft a strategy to: - Amplify your organization's voice and unique POV - Unite your team under a shared purpose - Transform your vision into a compelling narrative Don't let another day pass wishing for change. DM me to explore how we can turn your strategic vision into tangible impact.

Virtual Operations Assistant | Executive Assistance, Process Improvement, & Project Management | Helping Business Owners Achieve Profitability By Streamlining Workflows and Enhancing Productivity.
When I was 23, straightout of university, I started managing my family business after my father’s passing. It was a huge responsibility, but being an African child of a business owner, I had always provided extra labor and was well-versed in the ins and outs of the business. But the role also pushed me to develop a diverse set of skills and a vision for transforming the business to meet international standards. The biggest challenge I faced was getting my team aligned with this vision. However, I faced a significant challenge: aligning my team with this vision. I knew exactly where I wanted to take the business, but the employees didn’t share the same goal. This misalignment made it difficult to move forward and achieve the transformation I envisioned. Realizing this, I decided to step back and learn from experienced business owners and executives. This drive led me to take on the role of an executive personal assistant, where I could closely observe and learn from seasoned professionals. I believe that the best way to learn is by observing and working with those who have successfully managed similar challenges. Now, I’m looking for remote roles where I can continue to collaborate with experienced leaders, contribute my skills, and gain valuable insights. My goal is to further understand how businesses operate and how to effectively align a team with a unified vision, ensuring everyone works towards the same objectives. I’m excited to find a position, could be in operations, executive assistant, where I can add value and grow. So if you know of any opportunities or can connect me with someone who might be able to help, I’d greatly appreciate it. #virtualwork #operations #remote #careerdevelopment
