Wow! The first thing that comes to my mind when I read this question is when Elon Musk was introducing the first Cybertruck which was supposed to have these incredible armored windows. He went to throw a rock through the window and much to his surprise, it broke!
I've worked with many technology innovators, and it happens sometimes that new technology doesn't perform as it should at the time of launch and communication is hampered. In the case of the Cybertruck windows, Elon and Stefan pointed out that the ball didn't go through the window. Were we supposed to expect that the powerful armored windows wouldn't break at all or were we supposed to be in awe that even though they failed, the ball didn't go through them?
One way to avoid the problem is to show a video of a perfect demonstration which may be acceptable given that many factors may impact a live demonstration of a new technology that is not due to the technology itself (such as Internet performance, available bandwidth, or outside interference) If a live demonstration is necessary, then it is advisable to test and rehearse as much as possible before the public presentation.
If something still goes wrong, it's best to just express an honest surprised reaction or even laugh and say something like well, it seems we have a bit more work to do to get this just right. Stay tuned and we'll update you. That's what they did with the Cybertruck. A later demonstration showed improved results with windows that didn't break at all when the ball was thrown at them. They scored a win that time around. 😀
