💜 With Scotland's plans to pursue a feminist foreign policy, it becomes the first UK nation to embrace a feminist approach to international relations, although foreign policy remains the responsibility of the British government. 💬 Christina McKelvie, Scotland's Minister for Culture, Europe and International Development writes that “We want women and girls to be empowered to exercise equal rights and opportunities, have equitable access to economic resources and decision-making, and live their lives free from all forms of violence, abuse and harassment." 🔗 Read more of the latest feminist updates from around the world here: https://lnkd.in/gy9kUVP2 #ForeignPolicy #InternationalRelations #GenderEquality

The EU-Commission must do more to achieve equality for minorities! The protection and equality of national minorities should be at the heart of European democracy. Almost every 5th European is part of a national minority or indigenous group. As a minority Dane and European politician, I am very frustrated that Ursula von der Leyen ignores the rights of us minorities. This must change after the coming election. In the EU Parliament, we had a hearing in the PETI Committee on minority languages with Prof. Paul Videsott - and we both agreed: It is time, the European Motto “united in diversity” should be brought to life. On 21 March every year, we celebrate Human Rights Day, this is to celebrate the rights we enjoy as people regardless of race, gender, and religion amongst others. The United Nations defined 30 articles of Human Rights. These articles were defined in 1948 and can be found in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It established universal human rights on the basis of humanity, freedom, justice, and peace. Similarly, Chapter 2 of the Constitution of South Africa, 1996, also includes indivisible human rights in the Bill of Rights. These rights include the right to equality, human dignity, freedom of movement and residence, language and culture and life. Our Constitution can only be changed by a two-thirds majority in Parliament, ensuring that it would be difficult for anyone , including the government itself, to take away the basic rights of a citizen. #TshayaMashabelaAttorneys #humanrights #humanrightsday #constitution #billofrights

Today, as we commemorate Juneteenth, we reflect deeply on the significance of freedom and justice in our society. Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, marks the emancipation of the last remaining enslaved African Americans in the Confederacy. It serves as a powerful reminder of the resilience, strength, and ongoing struggle for equality that shapes our nation. At Fakhoury Global Immigration, we are deeply committed to upholding principles of justice and equality every day. Let us use this day to educate, empower, and inspire change. Together, we can build a future where freedom and equality are not just ideals, but realities for all. #Juneteenth #FreedomDay #SocialJustice #ImmigrationLaw #DiversityandInclusion #JusticeForAll #CivilRights

Today is Human Rights Day in the UK as designated by the United Nations. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a landmark achievement of the international community. Human rights in the UK are being eroded. We are concerned that the Illegal Migration Act, which became law in July 2023, removes the right to assistance for many survivors of modern slavery, leading to harm. The act has been criticised by both the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees for its disregard of human rights. The act effectively removes the right to access safety and support through the NRM or the asylum system for those brought here through exploitation. In many cases, these vulnerable people will be detained on arrival in the UK. Human Rights Watch has called on the UK government to uphold the legal obligations it has to those arriving in the UK, while Amnesty International called the passing of the act a “bleak day for human rights”. Snowdrop has been committed to supporting survivors of human trafficking, modern slavery, and exploitation for over a decade. The erosion of human rights in the UK, and the government’s hostile policies towards those seeking safety, won’t change this. We will continue to advocate for policies which are compassionate, fair and respect human rights. We will continue to urge the government to ensure that victims of modern slavery can receive the support they need to recover from their experiences and rebuild their lives. https://lnkd.in/e7JrHkvU https://lnkd.in/e5ngjjP3

At the World YWCA, we firmly believe that everyone deserves a life of freedom and dignity, unburdened by oppression. In the wake of the distressing Israel-Hamas conflict, where innocent lives—particularly women and children—remain disproportionately affected, we urge governments and the global community to uphold human rights standards in the Middle East and stand in solidarity with those enduring the heaviest toll. Join us in demanding accountability from governments and stakeholders across the world. Spread awareness of this crucial issue by sharing this post. International Development Practitioner focusing on Nature, Climate & Communities. I represent no organisation - even if they pay me a salary :)
If any antisemitic thought ever comes across any of you, please remember my brother Alon-Lee Green and how he spoke truth to power. If you think you felt like the need to support a genocide - because you couldn't believe it was happening or it was not politically correct (read beneficial) to you to protest, or risky, remember that there are people who dared to protest while living inside the border controlled by the Government that is leading the occupation of Palestine. Yes, they have privileges which many do not; therefore, not everyone can do the same. But there are also others with the same or more privileges who choose to look the other way or to profit from the blood of children and the destruction of humanity's core values, and they come with many religious labels, including Muslims (while sharing the same 'religion' with the Palestinians); - so this is way above what we commonly learn to realise by religion (as European colonials taught us to think). For me, this is about Huq (the Essence of Good, Rights, and justice) vs. Batil (the Essence of corruption, Falsehood, and those who must be rejected). I see Alon and his allies closer to Huq than myself (writing from the comfort of my home). And if you are like Alon or if you are doing even more to stop this destruction and evil, I support you with all my heart, and I hope to be more like you eventually (recognising that it's already too late).
