Our CEO, Jeff Linnell, recently participated in a panel discussion on the future of robotics hosted by BMW i Ventures! This *dream team* panel explored how robotics is tackling labor shortages, the increasing role of AI, and exciting investment trends. Here are some key takeaways ⬇️ - Robots are filling the labor gap: Robotics is becoming essential to address persistent labor shortages, especially in manufacturing and commercial real estate. - AI is supercharging robotics growth: Advancements in AI are leading to smarter, more efficient robots, driving innovation and setting the stage for growth across the industry. - Investment is on the rise again. VCs are renewing their interest in robotics, largely fueled by the exciting potential of AI-powered systems. Jeff specifically highlighted the following: - Service provider models are bridging the gap from vendor to end-user. Adding value as a robotics service provider is crucial to making adoption easier and bringing non-technical workers closer to the robots they work alongside. - AI is propelling robotics capabilities forward, fast. AI's rapid advancements are revolutionizing what robots can do, making machines not only more autonomous but also far more efficient and precise. A big thanks to the panelists, everyone who attended, and, of course, BMW iVentures for hosting! #robotics #automation #innovation #futureofwork #AI

Neura Robotics [news release excerpt]: NEURA Robotics, the world’s leading innovation driver in the field of cognitive #robotics with headquarters in Metzingen, is setting a decisive milestone: production will be relocated from #China to #Germany in 2024. The company currently still produces the majority of its total volume in China. By the end of 2024, production capacities in Metzingen are to be ramped up and simultaneously reduced in China. This consistent step once again emphasizes the indispensable importance of a robust home base in Germany for the company’s ambitious global growth strategy. David Reger, founder and visionary pioneer of NEURA Robotics, explains: “The relocation of production to Germany is a milestone on NEURA Robotics’ path to becoming the ‘Next German Hero’. We are convinced that #international #innovation leadership and regional ties are not mutually exclusive – a principle that automotive companies have taught us over decades. Cognitive robotics will have a similar significance in the future. ‘Made in Germany’ continues to be a seal of quality and excellence worldwide, especially in areas where top hardware is in demand. With this strategic decision, we want to demonstrate that Germany is the ideal location for cognitive robotics.” #news #business

Robotics funding saw another dip in 2023 The year isn’t quite over, of course, but year-to-date investments in the U.S. market are at $2.7 billion, down from $5 billion last year, $9.1 billion in 2021 and even the $3.4 billion that came through in 2020. Robot sales also recently saw a decrease, courtesy of economic headwinds following the initial pandemic surge. #robotics #robot #robots #automation #VentureCaptial #investing #investment #funding #business #technology #tech

Snapshot from the 2023 IEEE-RAS International Conference on #Humanoid Robots. The Humanoid Robotics topic is by no means new on the market, but many people are wondering why commercialization seems to be finally taking off. According to industry experts and robotics practitioners, here is why: ➡️ Technology development is accelerating ➡️ Market demand is increasing ➡️ Number of new factories is growing ➡️ Labor shortage is constantly increasing ➡️ Population is aging in many countries ➡️ BOM is going down ➡️ ROI is quicker to realize ➡️ Funding is more accessible ➡️ Special components designed for humanoids are easier to get ➡️ Maintenance cost is getting lower (swappable elements, etc) ➡️ Power density of motors becomes higher ➡️ Compute availability is increasing ➡️ Recent progress in AI makes the software easier and quicker to build ➡️ Safety assurance is considered the norm ➡️ People interact with robots more and more ➡️ Robotics is becoming mainstream and are seen in more and more industry and home applications ➡️ Collaboration of Business and Academia is becoming a best practice To sum up, the technology seems to be ready, but commercialization requires a bit more work on operational optimization. It's enough though, to have one task and specialized robot in the field as a near-term GTM that will further develop into general-purpose applications in time to scale the production across industries. It was great to meet representatives from Massachusetts Institute of Technology University of Michigan Robotics Department Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Vienna University of Technology, The University of Texas at Austin, KUKA, German Aerospace Center (DLR), Carnegie Mellon University, Gordon Cheng Luis Sentis Tamim Asfour Marc Raibert Apptronik 1X Unitree Robotics DEEP Robotics PAL Robotics Fourier Intelligence-Robotics Andra Keay kay and many other incredible minds! #humanoids #robotics #startups #venturecapital
