During the race in Spa, Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team saw an old adversary returning - bouncing. This has been a cause for major concern. Mercedes-AMG GmbH chief technical officer Mike Elliott analyzed the possible cause behind the bouncing "We definitely had an amount of bouncing this weekend, both drivers were telling us that and we could see it in the data" "We could also see an amount of bouncing on the other cars and I think some of it is the nature of the circuit at Spa and in fact we had huge amounts of bouncing last year as did most teams" “In teams of the performance, it definitely affects the performance of the cars because it affects the drivers’ ability to extract the maximum grip from the car, it affects their balance and it affects their ability to get their braking points right. FP1 kicked off with Lando Norris surprising us by leading the timesheets, closely followed by Max Verstappen. But, a nail-biting moment at Turn 9 hinted that Verstappen could have snagged the top spot if not for his late push on worn tyres. The session wasn't short of heart-stopping moments, with Alex Albon crashing out and causing a red flag, while Valtteri Bottas skillfully managed a 360-spin without kissing the barriers. FP2 saw Charles Leclerc take the spotlight, showing off incredible pace and topping the charts, leaving Verstappen trailing by nearly 0.4s at Albert Park. Carlos Sainz wasn't far behind, completing the top three. Aston Martin also made headlines with a strong performance, finishing fourth and fifth.
