This move positions them as a key player in the ongoing efforts to reduce carbon footprint in the #cementindustry, known for its high #CO2emissions. CEO Dominik von Achten expressed the company's perspective, stating, "The launch of our unique evoZero products is a paradigm shift in the decarbonization of our sector." The focus is on Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology, which Heidelberg Materials believes is a breakthrough for the #buildingmaterials industry. The initiative takes root at their Brevik site in Norway, where CCS technology is set to capture 400,000 tonnes of CO2 annually, equivalent to half of the plant's emissions. Norway's Brevik Cement Plant Advanced Carbon Capture - A Questionable Future for Sustainable Cement - Amid the towering grey structures and dusty industrial landscapes, a remarkable innovation stands out at the mouth of a fjord, two hours southwest of Oslo. A slim metal tube, rising 100 meters high, marks a significant milestone in the global energy transition. This towering structure, erected with millimeter precision in August, is part of a groundbreaking effort to capture carbon dioxide emitted from a sprawling cement plant near the old shipping town of Brevik, Norway. Once completed by the end of the year, this facility will become one of the first in the world to capture carbon in the production of green cement. These initiatives have enormous potential effects. To achieve the world's climate goals, carbon-free concrete must be developed. However, environmental or financial failure could set back this hotly contested technology, which the cement industry relies on for a third of its carbon savings by 2050. Welcome to a new era where nature embraces our buildings, as the construction industry adopts methods to directly incorporate CO2 into the production of various materials, further reducing the ecological footprint of our constructions.   How do you feel about this future? Are you ready to make it a reality?   Future Signal Fortera, a California startup has developed a technology that aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from cement production. Cement manufacturing is a major contributor to climate change, responsible for around 8% of global CO2 emissions. Fortera's technology intercepts carbon dioxide exhaust from cement kilns and routes it back into the cement-making process, reducing the overall carbon footprint.   The company is partnering with CalPortland, one of the largest cement plants in the western U.S., to implement this technology at their facility in Redding, California. Initially, the technology will be used to produce a cement blend that reduces carbon emissions by about 10%.
