ICYMI: San Joaquin County Public Health Services (SJCPHS) aims to advance health equity, promote healthy living, and improve the conditions that impact the overall well-being of over 790,000 residents in San Joaquin County.      In a study published by UC Davis in June 2022, SJC was one of the three counties with significantly higher rates of congenital syphilis (CS) compared to larger metro counties, with 297 CS cases per 100,000 live births.     In determining contributors to the higher CS rates in SJC, researchers identified additional missed opportunities for prevention, screening, and treatment in the Emergency Department (ED) and Correction Settings.     Learn how SJC is partnering with MX to utilize admission, discharge, and transfer (ADT) notifications and access longitudinal patient records to monitor communicable and infectious diseases. https://lnkd.in/dsfn3zEP

DYK? 🔗 The link between socio-economic status and health disparities is starkly evident in the case of Structural Heart Disease (SHD).   Professor Univ.-Prof.Dr. Ralph Stephan von Bardeleben, Head of the Centre of Structural Heart Disease Interventions and the Heart Valve Centre in Mainz, Germany, underscores the significant barriers faced by people from lower socio-economic backgrounds in accessing timely and effective SHD care.   🔍 Key Insights: 🏥 In Germany, privately insured patients, often from higher socio-economic groups, receive faster access to healthcare services, including initial appointments. This disparity means those with lower socio-economic status often face delays. 💡 Awareness of SHD is significantly higher among well-educated groups. Individuals without a high school diploma or academic education are less likely to be informed about these diseases, leading to later presentation and more severe disease at diagnosis. 💹 Residents of deprived neighbourhoods are more likely to be diagnosed with Aortic Stenosis (AS), a form of SHD. This underdiagnosis trend in less wealthy groups underscores the need for targeted interventions.
