Talent matters. In any profession, you need to develop and build your technical skills. But too often, very talented people underestimate the importance of predictability. When the stakes are high or the mission is complex and requires cooperation among many different people, others need to have confidence that they can rely upon you to do your part. It’s a confidence rooted in their perception that your behavior will be predictable enough that they can trust that, to paraphrase the words of Dr. Dre, you will do what you’re supposed to do. Here's the magic: True success comes when all three sides of the triangle are equally strong. Top-heavy on talent but lacking motivation? Spark your internal fire! Find a purpose that ignites your passion. Highly motivated but lacking specific skills? Invest in learning and development. Sharpen your saw! Great skills and motivation, but a negative attitude holding you back? Focus on fostering a growth mindset. Accept challenges and see setbacks as opportunities to learn.

The importance of self-discipline cannot be overstated. The recruitment process demands a level of commitment and focus that can only be sustained through discipline. A person without self-discipline will find the journey to success an uphill battle. Disciplined approaches turn challenges into strategic moves forward. Both paths have their difficulties, but the beauty lies in the power of choice—discipline or shortcuts.

It's truth is that talent is everywhere. We encounter individuals with natural abilities, skills, and potential on a daily basis. However, talent alone is not enough to guarantee success. Hard work is the secret ingredient that transforms talent into successful individuals. It's the grit, determination, and perseverance to push past obstacles, setbacks, and challenges. Unfortunately success seldom comes from getting things right all the time, its often achieved through great adversity and obstacles. While talent may initially open doors, it's hard work that keeps them open, and propels individuals toward their goals. As a leader ask yourself: 🔸 What can you do to help develop the talent, within your organization? 🔸 What resources are available to your employees for learning? 🔸 Do you have active mentorship within your teams, and organization? 🔸 Are you investing in training for your employees? 🔸 Do you know what your employees strengths, talents and passion are? Every employee has their own unique talents, some may be hidden or unknown, but everyone has something they are just better at than others. Making the effort to seek out and identify what can make your employees shine, will be a win for them, and a win for your company too. How do you invest in developing your people?

Things that make great talent leave make weak talent stay. Here are some examples: 1. When a mediocre supervisor is controlling and coercive, great talent will to somewhere else to be great. Weak talent will feel stuck and stay put. 2. When the environment feels unstable or unsafe, great talent will start looking for a better-paying job. Weak talent will keep their heads down and stay out of trouble. 3. When there's no clear purpose, vision, or direction, great talent will get frustrated and go someplace where their work matters. Weak talent will stay put and stay busy to secure their paycheck. 4. When great talent can't innovate and provide more value, they'll find a place that values their initiative. Weak talent doesn't know what that means. 5. When great talent is surrounded by weak talent for too long, they'll leave. The moral of the story is this: fire your insecure, micro-managing, no-vision supervisors and get some leaders (for crying out loud).

Many assume that raw talent is the prerequisite for success, but unlocking your potential demands more than mere talent. Here are some strategies to help you unlock your potential or help someone else realize theirs.

Don't just hire people into your organization, develop them! Your workforce is a major resource in your organization, without them you can't achieve much and build the empire you deserve. This is why it is important to give attention to how well your employees are developing mentally, physically and emotionally. The growth of your employees is just as important as the growth of your organization. They go hand in hand.
