Some Mind-boggling Questions Almost ten years ago, on this same platform, I raised a question regarding African historiography asking whether or not anthropology had a mercenary element. That question generated a heated debate, both from anthropologist and non-anthropologist. I will not return to that theme here though still pertinent. But I have been thinking of the following questions since then. Why were anthropologists working through or for the colonialists in Africa during the late 19th and mid 20th centuries? In what way did the colonial administration benefited from the knowledge gained through anthropological field work? Do we, those in the discipline, feel that, in a way, our founding fathers, especially those under the influence of Social Darwinism, have contributed to the subjugation of Africans to colonialism?

Don't miss the upcoming #booktalk on The Washington Outsider #Report on Coalition Radio with Elizabeth Weiss, who sparked controversy after being canceled by an anthropology conference over raising inconvenient questions related to Native American #repatriation claims. In this episode, we tackle * the difference between anthropology and archeology * Why the same scientists generally opposed to #Creationism are embracing #indigenous traditions as part various scientific disciplines * How Dr. Weiss ended up in the center of an outrage maelstrom over a surprising incident * the difficulties and complications related to using particular types of Native American expert witnesses and evidence based in oral histories * why ascertaining certain Native American claims and histories can be remarkably complicated * what happens when the distinction between science and spiritual practices gets erased and infiltrates every aspect of #societyandculture from the courts to the #CDC to the #FDA. * Why a group of hardcore activists is dominating the field and why many tribes officially support them, even as opinions among Native Americans diverge on an individual level. * How these double standards hurt the scientific quest for truth. * How #wokism is the most likely reason for the indiscriminate adoption of poorly understood issues and practices. * How #wokism in #anthropology leads to increased #sectarianism related to increasingly anachronistic and dubious claims related to trans identity in history, and other issues. * What can be done to resolve these conflicts and to expose some of the charlatans benefiting from the polarization in #Anthropology * How #wokism in science ends up hurting Native Americans and could even endanger lives and health. .... and much more!

"Tell me how you think the world and I will tell you how you think Law!" sums up Michel Alliot's theory of legal archetypes and logics. The theory of legal archetypes constituted the structural basis of the legal anthropology of the Laboratoire d'anthropologie juridique de Paris (LAJP) of the Université Paris 1 Panthéon - Sorbonne, one of the founding centres of French legal anthropology. It was then complemented by the dynamic approach of Étienne Le Roy which he formalised in his Jeu des lois / Game of laws and by my own move towards an intercultural legal theory through incorporating the work of the Intercultural Institute of Montreal and of the European Academy of Legal Theory. I feel it is still relevant today. Law is tripodic. It walks on three feet: general and impersonal norms, models of conduct and behaviour and habitus. This is the theory of multilegalism / multijuridisme of Étienne Le Roy, one of the founding fathers of French legal anthropology. The theory of multilegalism is an important contribution to the anthropology of Law and legal pluralism as approached by the Laboratoire d'anthropologie juridique de Paris (Université Paris 1 Panthéon - Sorbonne). You may find it thought provoking, helpful and inspiring! https://lnkd.in/dDjzSv5 #legalpluralism #law #legaltheory #legalphilosophy #legalanthropology #anthropologyoflaw #anthropology #pluralism #intercultural #interculturality #interculturaldialogue #interculturalcommunication #pluriverse #livingtogether
