Are you involved in designing new KS3 and KS4 courses? Are you working with the SDCC? I wonder how much effort from individual schools will go into designing new modules before GCSE reform catches up. Are schools designing modules that can be rolled out across the sector like EPQ, is it an alternative course arms race or a bit of both? Would be great to hear from those in the know. Interesting article below: Assessment ‘shapes, informs and dominates’ teaching and learning and the skills needed to perform in public exams. That’s problematic with Govian GCSEs: high stakes, high content, limited skills development and squeezing out the Y9 curriculum. We need courses that cover new, future-facing content and encourage pupils to design, create, reflect and problem-solve with assessment methods that showcase these skills. King’s High, amongst others, doing some interesting work here. ‘Assessment methods include TED-style talks, presentations, “viva voce” dialogue, film-making and business planning. For example, the assessment for the Sustainable Engineering module sees students build model electric vehicles, wind-powered generators and load-supporting frames; the assessment of the Law and Legal System module sees students practise advocacy skills in a courtroom scenario overseen by a serving magistrate.’
Have GCSEs had their chips? A really strong piece here from Stephen Burley, headmaster of King's High School, Warwick 👇 https://lnkd.in/eKRvcjUQ #GCSEs #assessment #exams #alevels

Very relevant article this morning via Higher Ed Dive. The authentic "facts and figures" aren't always shared and the consequences can be much more significant than they even needed to be. I have gone through this experience with multiple college and university clients and there is often vague misinformation shared that fosters a lack of a genuine understanding about the real facts—and therefore the consequences can end up being more severe. Honesty is the best policy and sooner rather than later. #higheredleadership #collegesanduniversities #highered
