What roles should discipline and punishment play in our school systems? When we punish, are we acting in a "correctional" way, or, are we simply exacerbating underlying problems? In light of recent events, and college campuses across the US being stormed by officers, this time I mostly only pose questions. In our public education system, poor children, minority children, and neurodivergent children are disproportionately disciplined the most. What does that do for their future? Do they ever really have a chance to catch up with everyone else, if they are so tracked early on? Can we imagine schools that operate differently - those that don't take away schooling from children who need it the most? Schools that pour *into* children where there's a *gap*. What kind of world could that approach create? Kids today go to school with invisible backpacks full of challenges and self-doubts. Schools should take some of that weight off their shoulders. Notes: RSAs = Restrictive State Apparatuses. These include our police or military, institutions which control people by force or restriction. ISAs = Ideological State Apparatuses. These include schools and churches, they bring people together through ideological and cultural conditioning/community building. So, do RSAs really belong in or around ISAs? #graduateschool #lecture #racialequality #education #equity #community #leadership

If you think #Teachers Unions support #educators by negotiating better wages and working conditions, you may be shocked and disturbed to find out that today’s teachers unions are well-funded, highly politicized organizations that are hurting—not helping—the #PublicEducation system in America and keeping even the worst teachers protected. PragerU’s short documentary investigates how these once well-intentioned teachers unions have become the biggest bully in school. The Biggest Bully in School: Why Public Education Is Failing in America: https://lnkd.in/gqGbK97E #teachersunions #EdChat #EdLeaders #Edu

Annually observed on the Wednesday during American Education Week, National Education Support Professionals Day honors the contributions of school support employees. These support professionals provide invaluable services and are essential partners in a child’s education. The day honors a long list of professionals who keep schools running smoothly. They include all secretaries, classroom aides, cafeteria workers, maintenance workers, bus drivers, and the others who support educators, school leadership, and the students, too. These professionals do their part in making public schools exceptional for every child so they can be safe, learn, grow and achieve. #EducationSupportProfessionalsDay #suhsdsped #thankyou #weappreciateyou

How do you align the company's vision with training goals? Our expert shares a unique approach: taking policies that impact education and creating on-ramps for diverse populations and beliefs. By doing this, we create a space that allows everyone to accept policies and programs that they may have previously rejected. This approach ultimately supports the success of the 1.6 million public school children in New Jersey. #TrainingGoals #Education #DiversityAndInclusion
