Minister for Sustainability and the Environment and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations, driving sustainable development and trade relations in and for Singapore.
Glad to participate at Ecosperity Week 2024 where I shared with global leaders on Singapore’s approach to achieve a low-carbon future. The theme this year - “Renewing our Vibrant Spring” is apt, as Temasek convenes stakeholders from all around the world to advance the global effort towards climate action. At Ecosperity Week 2023, I had highlighted our progress made in achieving net zero. A year on, efforts to decarbonise and address climate change remain more relevant than ever. Singapore has made significant strides to reduce emissions domestically. I announced at Ecosperity that the Singapore Business Federation will partner A*STAR - Agency for Science, Technology and Research, PwC and Singtel to establish a Singapore Emission Factors Registry (SEFR). The SEFR will support local businesses to generate more accurate emissions inventory that is reflective of our local conditions. I thank Temasek for organising this annual event. As Ecosperity marks its 10th year, I hope that it will continue to be a global platform where discussions on green transition will lead to concrete actions, and where ideas will translate into collaborations across communities, industries, and beyond borders. #Ecosperity #ClimateChange #Sustainability #NetZero #ClimateAction #ParisAgreement

As 2023 concludes, here’s a quick look back at our key milestones for the year: 🌍 Ecosperity Week 2023 convened over 3,000 participants to discuss the high impact technology, policy, and finance levers that can bring about breakthroughs for net zero. This year, Temasek partnered BlackRock and the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) to organise the first-ever #FASTConference addressing climate financing gaps and facilitating a just #greentransition at scale and speed for Asia. 🗣️ #Ecosperity Conversations gathered global business leaders, industry experts, and changemakers online and at international platforms including #ClimateWeekNYC 2023 and #COP28 UAE. These discussions explored topics that ranged from #circularity in fashion to climate financing, ocean-based climate solutions and innovations that can #decarbonise the agri-food industry. 🏙 Over 400 youths across 20 cities signed up for the challenge of reimagining what a sustainable, #netzero city could look like as part of Sustain-a-City: An Urban Innovation Challenge, organised in partnership with Arkki Singapore (by The Possible Class). Concerted climate and nature-positive action will drive the progress we need to restore our planet. Mark your calendars for our upcoming events in 2024, starting with the 10th edition of Ecosperity Week, happening from 15 – 17 April 2024. Sustainability is an increasingly important issue for many people, especially in the business landscape and everyday life. Climate change continues to affect our lives and the fate of all other species around the planet. For business owners, leaders, and administrators, sustainable business practices are becoming vital and part and parcel of every business operation. The Singapore government unveiled the SG Green Plan 2030, a nationwide movement to advance Singapore’s national agenda over the next 10 years on sustainable development and five key pillars: City in Nature, Sustainable Living, Energy Reset, Green Economy and Resilient Future, positioning the country to achieve long-term net zero emissions aspiration as soon as viable. #hashtaqs #business #brandtransformation #digitaltransformation #bizdicussion #futureofwork #sustainability #greencity #gogreen #ClimateAction #GreenLiving

Now on their 8th edition, the Singapore Apex Corporate Sustainability Awards 2023, which took place on October 3rd at the Orchard Hotel, are the most prestigious form of recognition for Singapore companies in the categories of Sustainable Business and Sustainable Solutions. This year, the awards also featured a new category called the LowCarbonSG Awards, to recognize local businesses that have made significant progress in their carbon emissions reduction efforts. To be eligible for this new category, which is by invitation-only, companies have to prove that they have reduced their Scope 1 and 2 emissions over a period of 24 months by at least 5%. Mrs. Grace Fu, Minister for Sustainability and The Environment was the Guest of Honour and provided the highlights of the event in a fire-chat conversation entitled “Forward Faster Corporate Sustainability: A Conversation with Minister Grace Fu.” Introduced with a rather ominous reminder of the current macro political and socio-economic environment we find ourselves in, where half of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are off-track and some actually worsening, Minister Grace Fu re-hashed the efforts Singapore is taking as part of the Singapore Green Plan 2030 and it’s ambitions to become net-zero by 2050. The main principles of education, adaptation to increased global temperatures to protect coastal lines from the threat of sea level increases and international cooperation on loss and damage for developing countries disproportionately affected by climate change were highlighted as the most pressing steps to fight the most adverse effects of global warming. #gracefu #singapore #corporatesustainability #sustainability #climatechange #corporateawards #ministryofenvironment #sdgs #singaporegreenplan Continue reading here: https://lnkd.in/gkfZ6kFt

Last Thursday, Climate Fresk Singapore hosted their General Assembly for the second year in a row. 50+ facilitators joined us for the celebration of our recent 7,000 participants milestone, making Singapore a country that truly counts! Looking back at the work we deployed over the last 4 years, I feel incredibly empowered of seeing how the community has sprouted and managed to grow, despite our busy work life. And that’s what makes this Climate Fresk community this so prevalent worldwide; we know what we’re here for, our awareness objective is our cement. Thanks Cedric Ringenbach for crafting this beautiful tool that we are proud to bring to the world! So, what have we talked about? Well, topics that must keep any Sustainability practitioners & Community builders awake at night. 🎯 Our Scope of action; How do multiply our impact by following up with our workshops' participants, what pathways do we open up after our awareness effort to trigger more action? 🤝 Unite under the same banner; How can we join forces with other communities like Digital Collage, Biodiversity Collage Singapore, Les Ateliers de l'Adaptation au Changement Climatique, 2tonnes go beyond just Climate Change awareness and move the needle in the same direction? 🌱 Empower the community; How do we encourage our community to get involved even more, and how to be the best version of ourselves, one step at a time. It’s impossible to track down our direct impact obviously, but I’m sure we contributed within our reach to make Sustainability more mainstream in our red dot here. And that’s just the beginning! We are aiming at 12,000 participants and double our 300+ people community by the end of the year. So, if you’re passionate about making an impact and bring more awareness to Singapore, join our next events; sgclimate.org #sustainability #sustainabilityeducation #sustainabilityinaction #SGgreenplan #communityempowerment #communityimpact

🌿 Calculus Carbon at WWF Earth Hour Summit 2024 Calculus Carbon had the privilege of attending the WWF Earth Hour Summit 2024 in Singapore, where we gained valuable insights from esteemed speakers and engaging panel discussions. Here's a recap of the key highlights and takeaways from the event: 🎤 Keynote Address by Ms. Jacqueline Poh, Managing Director, Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB): ♦ Ms. Poh emphasized Singapore's vulnerability to climate change despite contributing only 0.1% of global greenhouse gas emissions. ♦ Nature-based Solutions (NBS) were underscored as crucial for meeting climate targets, with an emphasis on protecting forests, peatlands, and mangroves. ♦ EDB's initiatives, including the CAD Trust and support for NBS solutions in Southeast Asia, were highlighted. ♦ The growing presence of carbon services firms in Singapore and opportunities for climate finance development were discussed. ♦ Service providers were encouraged to leverage Singapore's strategic location and partnerships for advancing climate finance. ♦ Foreign carbon traders were reminded of advantageous opportunities through Singapore's Compass visa application. 📑Panel Discussion I: Are we on track to achieve one-third of carbon abatement targets by Nature-based Solutions? ♦ The panel, moderated by Mr. Kamal Prakash Seth of WWF-Singapore, explored the financing gap and challenges in implementing NBS. ♦ Insights from Mr. Boon Heong Ng, Ms. Maya Hari, and Prof. Veera Sekaran shed light on the importance of financing, technological innovation, and community involvement in scaling NBS. ♦ Mr. Ng emphasized the philanthropic efforts of Temasek Foundation in investing in Climate Tech and NBS, citing the example of mangrove conservation in Sumatra. ♦ Challenges such as the valuation of greenery in urban spaces and the need for integrated reduction strategies alongside NBS investments were discussed. The discussion emphasized the importance of tech-led and trust-led solutions for scaling NBS and ensuring verifiability. Overall, the summit provided a platform for insightful discussions on the intersection of climate action and global efforts, inspiring us to continue our commitment to sustainable practices and innovation in tackling climate change. #WWFEarthHourSummit #ClimateAction #NatureBasedSolutions #ClimateAction #AsiaClimateLeadership #ecosperityweek2024 #calculuscarbon #climatechange #netzero #singapore #southeastasia #temasek #carbonmarket #wwfsingapore

Happy to attend Singapore Environment Council (SEC) 25th SEAA and get to hear from thought leaders and trailblazers of sustainability in their various sectors. There is no such thing as a green job, but we all have a job to go green. Borrowing the powerful closing remarks from Minister Grace Fu. I paraphrase, how old are you when 2050 comes? With luck, we are still alive. Most likely our children will be the drivers of the world. So what kind of world would we want them to be in? It is up to us to answer these questions. #KGS #sustainability #circulareconomy #regenerative #recycle #ewaste #IT T MAX
