Fridtjof Detzner’s Post

🎉 Congratulations to C1 Green Chemicals AG for producing the first batch of methanol in their “Leuna100” pilot project. This is a world-first in making green methanol more affordable, made possible by capturing CO2 from industrial emissions and combining it with green hydrogen. In just over a year since the project's launch, this milestone is one for the books. As a founder myself, I can relate to the absolute excitement of reaching any milestone. So massive kudos to Christian VollmannMarek Checinski, and the entire C1 team. On a higher level, this is great news for all of us and here’s why: 🌍 We’ll need 120M tonnes of methanol by 2025, and 500M tonnes by 2050 🌍 Methanol causes 10% of chemical & petrochemical CO2 emissions 🌍 Only 0.2% of methanol today is green, mainly because it’s up to 5x more expensive 🌍 In low-margin sectors like shipping, this cost is hard to cover And as already explained in more depth in our Hardware Playbook (Link in the comments), scaling hardware isn’t easy. Hence those milestones weigh even more and everyone involved should be tremendously proud of the work accomplished. Up next: Commercial demo plant! 👷🏻
