Last week, Dr. Tareq Abu Hamed addressed a group at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. His talk included the launch of the Arava Institute’s latest humanitarian initiative, "Jump Starting Hope in Gaza." EJewish Philanthropy has released an article covering the event. “The vast majority of people want peace, but they think the other side doesn’t want peace, and that’s because of the lack of communication between the two sides. This is the role of Arava Institute. We use science and the environment to bring people together. This shows how much trust plays an important role. Through the discussion of science, you give people the opportunity to see the human in one another.” – Dr. Tareq Abu Hamed, as quoted in EJewish Philanthropy. The Great Barrier Reef is experiencing its fifth mass coral bleaching event in eight years. There was no ‘mass’ coral bleaching on the Great Barrier Reef prior to 1980! The events are getting more frequent, severe, and widespread. The best way to slow this trajectory is rapid and drastic reduction in global greenhouse gas emissions. However, the IPCC says restoring the function of the environment must occur in tandem. We have been doing that on land worldwide for a long time. Coral reefs present a different challenge, but we must be up for the fight. Reef Restoration Foundation’s signature Resilience & Recovery program uses mobile coral nurseries to build and preserve healthy spawning stock. It works with nature to accelerate coral larvae production that adds hundreds of millions of baby corals to the system. It’s easily replicated and operated by communities, plus it is a means of dispersal for the progeny of heat adapted corals. We need sponsors and donors now! #InternationalDayforBiologicalDiversity! Empower Future Environmental Leaders By Donating; https://lnkd.in/giVrnTPM Together with other young people working with Kudakwashe Kalonga under United Nations Association in Canada we are developing the Youth Biodiversity Framework to submit to Global Affairs Canada | Affaires mondiales Canada . This framework highlights the importance of youth engagement and how young people can contribute to Canada's international efforts to protect our planet. Our youth authors have been working hard to ensure that young voices are heard—their insights and dedication reflect the innovative and engaged perspectives of the next generation in protecting our planet. Developing builds on the 1992 Convention on Biological Diversity and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF). This framework holds countries accountable to goals such as protecting 30% of land, waters, and seas by 2030. Protecting biodiversity is not just about conserving species—it's about maintaining the natural balance that supports life itself. Young people, being the first to be impacted by today's decisions, are critical in driving forward sustainable initiatives and maintaining a beautiful and diverse Canadian landscape.

KWR has been active in the field of PFAS for over a decade, through various projects and the close collaboration with the Institute for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics (IBED) of University of Amsterdam. Thanks to high-end instruments (e.g., tandem and high-resolution mass spectrometry) the quantification of trace level of these contaminants as well as broad screening and identification of emerging PFAS have become possible. Furthermore, KWR has recently developed analytical techniques for the detection and quantification of some upcoming PFAS in water samples. Additional methods are currently being developed at KWR to analyse a much broader range of PFAS, including alternative and emerging PFAS. https://lnkd.in/e-M5Az2i
Do you have a solution to help remove PFAS from water? Are you a water provider concerned about future regulation? Piece together the PFAS puzzle with panellists Mohamed Ateia Ibrahim, Group Leader, US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Agency (EPA)/Adjunct Assistant Professor, Rice University, Roberta Hofman, Senior Researcher - Water Treatment & Resource Recovery, KWR Water Research Institute, Wayne Byrne, Venture PartnerDirector, Burnt Island Ventures, Sonora Hills, Portfolio Innovation Manager, Imagine H2O, Kobe Nagar, Founder, 374Water water and Julie Bliss Mullen, Founder, Aclarity. Join this workshop to hear about key developments, case studies and meet like-minded industry peers looking to get ahead of this mega-challenge. The 'go to' for Digital Marketing & Environmental Practice @ Mission Performance Ltd | a Certified B Corp | Using business as a force for good
A short video I've put together as an introduction to the Mission Investment carbon offset programme with Mission Performance in which we directly invest in environmental charities - bypassing the shady and profiteering carbon credit market. #CarbonCredit #CarbonOffset #BCorp #CarbonEmissions #MissionInvestment
Our Mission Investment contributions are processing nicely! We wanted to take this time to remind you of our innovative carbon offset programme in which we work out our emissions project by project, calculate the tonnage into a monetary figure then invest this directly with one of our chosen environmental charity partners. Following our Royal Marines heritage, we have chosen a land-based and water-based organisations to work with this year. The land-based organisation is Stump Up For Trees, and for every tonne of carbon, we emit through our travels will equate to 4 native broadleaf trees planted and managed over 12 years. The water-based organisation is the Scottish Association For Marine Science, and for every tonne of carbon, we emit through our travels will trigger an equivalent multiplier investment in education and research to support SAM’s purpose and objectives. We are working our way to introducing this approach to our full portfolio of clients and aim to have the Mission Investment programme in place across the business in the very near future. join us on our journey on our website at https://lnkd.in/emJ7hhJm #CarbonOffset #MissionInvestment #MissionPerformance #CarbonOffset
