THIS JUST IN: I hear Procter & Gamble's ambitious planetary targets and I am eyeing it as my next investment. If you are curious what I think about the company's headway, I released my brief overview & pre-requisite 2024 audit report as an incoming investor for Procter & Gamble. I also market & economically tested investments timed from 1991 to now, if you wanna see different variations & why. There are some key highlights & lowlights I'm considering before jumping on board, although I see the potentials & pitfalls, not only financially, but reputation-wise -- I'm more concerned on 3 things: 1. Getting the major share to dictate the key planetary movement of P&G. 2. Hunting down the best planet experts who'd take up key stakeholder reviews with me, to be able to support the current board's transition to a new one, focusing on long-term sustainability + rapid company, geo-political & regulatory risks. 3. The consumer behaviours that will drive the adaptation plan. (I want the consumers & stakeholders to be deeply involved, to shape the company). So far, I am enjoying CEO Shailesh Jejurikar's report. McKinsey & Company explicitly mentions "We hire people, not degrees" Boston Consulting Group (BCG) has a firm stand on the notion of "Competence over Credentials" Mass Merchandiser Walmart removed degree requirements for corporate jobs altogether Accenture is focusing on "Becoming a Skills-Driven Organization" IT major IBM has coined the concept of "New Collar jobs" which means prioritizing skills and capabilities over degrees or traditional career paths. The hiring game is changing, and so needs to be YOU... 1. Learn and Brush on-demand skills regularly 🏃🏻♂️ 2. Build a strong work portfolio of projects and highlight outcomes generated 📃 3. 𝐎𝐏𝐄𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐃𝐎𝐎𝐑𝐒 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐏𝐀𝐕𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐖𝐀𝐘 Have you ever opened the door and paved the way for others? 🔓 Or has someone else done that for you? I have one such story. Ages ago, when I was a fresh Engineering graduate, I joined the HR Department of an amazing company: Procter & Gamble Philippines. It was a very long recruiting process. Back then, only 1.4% of applicants succeeded in landing a job in P&G Philippines. 😅 In the end, I was so grateful to get an offer. I became the Management Trainee in Employee Communications & Recruitment. Competition for talent in the Philippines was tough. P&G competed with other top employers in the Philippines like Unilever, J&J and Colgate Palmolive. I traveled to many parts of the Philippines to find talent, even from schools we normally didn’t recruit from. Those days, P&G already championed #𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲, before it became the agenda in other companies. Thus, finding and hiring the 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐟𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐬, Fama Francisco, was especially noteworthy. At that point, P&G had already been in the Philippines for 55 years, yet with an all-male Sales department. Fama’s journey is truly remarkable. She opened the door and paved the way for so many other promising, talented females to join a once male-dominated department. After that, Fama busted even more glass ceilings, with her phenomenal growth in P&G: ⭐Today, she is the Global CEO of P&G’s Baby, Feminine & Fabric Care business.  ⭐She is also amongst the youngest women promoted to President. ⭐She is the first Asian female Sector CEO in P&G’s 187-year history. She is truly a 𝐁𝐈𝐆 𝐒𝐇𝐎𝐓, yet she remains so humble and grounded.  P&G Philippines employees, current and past, are so proud of her. For years, I used to chuckle at the organizational emails that announced, "____ will leave the company to pursue personal interests." It always seemed like an understatement for such a significant life choice. But when my own departure was framed with those same words, I realized just how true they were: I did leave to pursue my personal interests!😅 After 7 transformative years at Procter & Gamble, it feels both like a lifetime and a fleeting moment. I'm profoundly grateful for the knowledge gained, the incredible people I met, and the unique experiences I had 💙. Here are four key lessons I’ve learned during my time at P&G: Embrace Mistakes😶: My greatest growth came from my failures, not my successes. Mistakes are learning opportunities. Embrace them, learn from them, and keep moving forward. The Power of Teamwork🙏: In my last role, the strength of my team was paramount. By trusting and empowering each other, we achieved remarkable results. A strong, cohesive team can accomplish more than individuals working in isolation. Self-Praise is Crucial🤩: I used to wait for external validation from my manager or coworkers, but once I started recognizing and celebrating my own achievements, others took notice. Don't wait for acknowledgment—be your own biggest cheerleader and share your successes. Keep Perspective🙃: There were many nights I stressed over laundry detergent, until I realized it wasn’t worth compromising my mental and physical health. Remember, most things are not as critical as they seem. I could write several more posts to express my gratitude to everyone who supported my journey, but I’ll keep it concise by mentioning a few who stood out as mentors, friends, and guides. AND IT'S A WRAP - of a fulfilling, enriching, valuable, memorable 14 Yrs of my time with Procter & Gamble India From the day I walked in dreamy-eyed, I've grown up a second time all over again, evolving into the individual that I am today. Blessed with immense opportunities all through - 10 different assignments, 10+ countries, 5+ categories, 2 functions - the experience has been incredible. Apart from the rich professional development, I'm also grateful for the employee-centric policies & support systems that have always enabled me to find the balance I wanted to, in meeting my personal-professional expectations. I do believe that it is not possible to have it all, at all points in time. But it is indeed possible to have different things at different points in time depending on HOW & WHAT we prioritize. For me, every time I prioritized a personal need, P&G stood by me rock-solid on the professional front, supporting my choices - a long maternity break, an International stint, a sabbatical at a time of dire personal need among many others - ensuring these choices don't impact my career progress. And this is a true testimony to Equality & Inclusion, giving the ambitious-me wings to fly. Thankful to each of my mentors, managers, career sponsors, peers and my teams without whose support none of this would've taken shape. Each one of them make P&G what it is. And these relationships I have built over the years, is the biggest treasure I take with me into the future. We are diverse, we are stronger. Now that I have left Procter & Gamble for some years, I know what I learn from this experience. I could talk about great marketing leaders, and training... but it is not what left the deeper change in my understanding of the business world. I worked at a couple of European companies before, and what was the most striking was the multicultural aspect. You join P&G, and immediately, you work with hundreds of people from different countries and different horizons. It is not about Corporate Social Responsibility, it is about performance. A team is stronger when you have diverse people period. In Europe, you can admit other people because you want to look good in your corporate communication. In a true multinational company like P&G, you hire people from different cultures and backgrounds to be the best. I would have never thought of that before joining P&G, I would have structured my business the same way without this experience, and I would have probably completely crashed the company with only "Like me" people at emazing. We will succeed not despite of our diversity, but because of it.
