Mental health is essential to our overall health, so it's important for us to do what we can to improve and maintain it. A great way to do that is to practice self-care. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, that means taking the time to do things that help you live well and improve your physical and mental health. Even small acts of self-care can have a big impact on managing stress, lowering the risk of illness, and increasing energy. #MentalHealth #MentalHealthMatters #MentalHealthAwareness #SelfCare #MentalWellness #MontgomeryCountyAllianceForPrevention #MontCoPA #PreventionHappensHere #Prevention #PAprevention #MontCoPrevention #MAPtoPrevention

Today's #WellnessWednesday #MentalHealthHack is to eat healthy, regular meals and to stay hydrated! According to Sutter Health, a healthy, well-balanced diet can help us think clearly, feel more alert, improve our concentration, and improve our attention span, while an unhealthy diet can cause fatigue, impaired decision-making, slower reaction times, and may even lead to stress and depression. Try eating complex carbs, like sweet potatoes and starchy vegetables, lean proteins, like chicken, fish, and eggs, and fatty acids, like nuts and flaxseed, to boost your brain health. #WellnessWednesdayWisdom #TipOfTheDay #WellnessTip #MentalHealth #MentalHealthMatters #MentalHealthAwareness #EndTheStigma #MontgomeryCountyAllianceForPrevention #MontCoPA #PreventionHappensHere #Prevention #PAprevention #MontCoPrevention #MAPtoPrevention

Summer is in full swing! Schools are closed, the weather is warm, and kids are enjoying some well-deserved time to relax and have fun. While summer break gives kids free time to play, socialize, and rest, it's important to know that this is also the time of year when kids are most likely to experiment with substances. According to Bradford Health Services, multiple studies have shown that alcohol and drug use among teens significantly increases during the summer months. By the end of August, almost 1 million teenagers will have had their first drink, and on an average summer day, around 4,500 teens will smoke cigarettes or marijuana for the first time. To keep summer fun safe and substance-free, set clear rules with your child, supervise them when you're able to, monitor them when they spend time away from home, and stay involved so they know you care about their health and well-being. #MentalHealth #MentalHealthMatters #Summer #SummerVacation #SummerBreak #SelfCare #MentalWellness #MontgomeryCountyAllianceForPrevention #MontCoPA #PreventionHappensHere #Prevention #PAprevention #MontCoPrevention #MAPtoPrevention

Today's #WellnessWednesday #MentalHealthHack is to go for a walk outside! According to a study by the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, walking for one hour daily helps reduce the risk of major depression by 26%! And, according to Help Guide, the endorphins that are released by physical activity, such as walking, help relieve anxiety and stress, and improve memory, thinking, self-esteem, sleep, energy levels, and resilience. Don't have an hour during the day to walk? That's okay! Walk for as long as you're able to. Something is better than nothing. #WellnessWednesdayWisdom #TipOfTheDay #WellnessTip #MentalHealth #MentalHealthMatters #MentalHealthAwareness #EndTheStigma #MontgomeryCountyAllianceForPrevention #MontCoPA #PreventionHappensHere #Prevention #PAprevention #MontCoPrevention #MAPtoPrevention
