Saturday was a great day at the New Age of DEI Conference. I enjoyed speaking on the New Age panel with Tracey Walker and Donald L. Butler, CISA, CDPSE, PMP. A few key takeaways from that conversation:
1. DEI Fatigue. Many are expressing fatigue at the consistent messaging. Those of us working in this space are tired as well. We do the work because it's important work, but we too get fatigued that we must continue to emphasize the importance of equity.
2. Lines, more lines! We want to see more lines at these conferences - in general and, well, to the men's room. We need to see more key male allies and influencers at these very important conferences. We also need to see CEOs, CIOs, CTOs, COOs, CFOs, CSOs. It's critical to see more senior executive leaders who lead business, tech and financial strategy for organizations at these events. We know that more representation in the workforce results in more robust innovation. This is proven. Your strategy leaders need to be engaged and on board with what representation in the workforce means for bottom lines.
3. More representation in the workforce is NOT COMPROMISE. Because you have intentional hiring initiatives does not mean you compromise your talent pipelines. This idea that hiring more diverse talent means you give up hiring better talent is a myth - and insulting. Intentional hiring means you are ensuring that you have the best representative talent to design products, address issues and innovate. It means you know that the more representation you have, the better products you will offer. And this means a more robust bottom line, happier shareholders, and larger paychecks.
4. Culture of accountability. Many leaders understand and embrace the business case for a representative workforce. However that message has not been emphasized and internalized by managers and other strategy/business execution roles. While certainly it would be great to win hearts and minds to the business case for representation, in absence of that, leaders need to hold their organizational food chains accountable. This means not only in hiring, but also in behavior within the company. If you tell a female employee she's better at fetching coffee than contributing to a team, then you will be held accountable for this behavior and it will not be tolerated. This is accountability. All the hiring, ERGs and pretty diverse graphics on your webpage mean nothing if you do not create a culture of accountability. CEOs are Culture officers. They set the tone and can empower their leaders to create accountability, top down and bottom up.

More engagement = better results. Ask me how we do it. "Transmit on the frequency they're listening for," and "It's not what you say, it's how you say it." Messages not only "make sense," they also "feel right."
Good to see the TPA Industry continuing to provide collaborative conferences to explore and champion innovation.
It's just critical that employers and consultants have vetted and proven administrative and focused alternatives to the BUCAs - not that the BUCAs are "wrong!"
But it's useful to remember that, in a sense, the BUCAs are ocean liners; TPAs can be (and often are) jet-skis.
“Our TPA Summit will continue to serve as a platform for collaborative dialogue, fostering innovation and progress as we navigate the dynamic challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for our industry. Once again, we are poised to bring attendees a speaker lineup consisting of some of the best and brightest from within the self-funding industry, as well as those from outside our industry who are shaping its future.”

Happy Monday!
A week or so ago, I was judging the Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards.
Now the tables have turned, as I started this week by finalising my submissions for the 2024 ROAR Awards.
When I first started my business, the idea of entering business awards made me feel ick. But now I see the value of entering them.
They're definitely a great way to review the ups and downs I've had in my business.
Do you enter business awards?
