A productive week spent at the Brewers Association CBC in Vegas, meeting suppliers, brewers, and event organizers. Massive thanks to the Brewers Association and Konvoy for their support. Excited to share that there are lots of BD opportunities for We Are Beer down the line. Looking forward to a productive summer working with both organizations over here in the UK. Despite the challenges that the industry is facing globally, leaving Las Vegas feeling pretty positive. Why? ➡ Because the topline trading numbers are decent and people still want premium. The raw material for commercial success is there. ➡ Because the craft and indy sector is where the vast majority of "new" in beer starts, and where the creative capital lies - both brands and products. ➡ Because we're entering into a new phase for good beer and we haven't really seen the sector make its move post-covid. Knowing and meeting the hard working and smart people in beer, and seeing some of the plans and strategies coming into play, I think you'll see good beer kick on again. Which is great for the whole category. Excited to get stuck in.

Desperately sad to see high-quality operations like North Brewing Co struggling like this. The government seems determined to do nothing about our independent pubs breweries going to the wall. The cost of living crisis is also a cost of brewing crisis. Energy, premises costs, wages, ingredients, everything is only going up in price and drinkers don't have the money to cover these increases at the tap. Politicians love to waving the Union Jack and staging grinning photo-ops with pint in hand but what is Britishness, what is our culture if it isn't our pubs and our glorious brewing history? There seems to be no shortage of funds available for fossil fuel businesses though. Since 2015 businesses engaged in new extraction and mining of fossil fuels have received £80 billion from the UK government. The smallest sliver of this would be sufficient to support our sector and we'd be a much happier, richer, nation for it.
Popular Leeds brewer and bar operator North Brewing Co has said it is seeking investment to secure the future of its business, after signalling intent to appoint administrators. North Brewing founder Christian Townsley said investment was needed to "secure the security of our staff and the business". He added North Bar venues were unaffected and continued to trade. So desperately sad to see what should be the epitome of a British brewing success story struggling like this in the face of mounting costs, a cost-of-living crisis and interest rate hikes. My thoughts go out to Chris, John Gyngell and the rest of the North Brewing team today.

Another chapter in “ Stirring the Hornets Nest” Once upon a time, Stew Leonard of of Stew Leonard’s grocery store in the Northeast USA made this comment “Rule 1: The customer is always right. Rule 2: If the customer is ever wrong, re-read Rule 1. Unfortunately, Stew was incorrect, Stew did not deal with the current slate of customers that believe the world owes them everything just for walking into your location or dealing with your company. Read the attached article, it has its merits for a restaurant and I am in total agreement. In our manufacturing situation, as is our case, I will not accept any of our clients berating or yelling at our sales teams nor our customer service representatives, those who do, will get a personal phone call or email message from me to discuss the issue. In my conversations with them, I always let them know that these team members are there to help them the best way possible and within the company’s guidelines, should they want to berate anyone, please contact me, and I will deal with the client and the situation. Your thoughts and comments are welcome! https://lnkd.in/g-QNP3aX

#NeilCavuto invited Jon Taffer on his #FoxBusiness show Varney & Co. for the 97th time recently. Taffer gave a state of the industry and highlighted that #compression is the key to helping the current struggling restaurant business in America. Compression of menus, labor force, footprints and more. Taffer's Tavern’s model was built on these traits that help withstand the volatile nature of the economy. #growth #restaurantindustry #innovation #franchise #restaurantfranchise #smallbusiness #restaurants

Pricing expert helping teams boost their pricing confidence to build equity, revenue & brand value by removing the guesswork | Pricing Strategy | Pricing Design | Pricing Communications
We all love 2-for-1 cocktails and happy hours when pubs want to lure us through their doors during quiet periods but it's a different story when they want to charge more at busy times (link to full article in the comments). Slug & Lettuce are extending their experiment with dynamic pricing, citing increased staff costs during peak hours as the cause. I suspect customers will see through the "increased costs" narrative as sales and profit will also rise with a packed pub...and their experience as punters suffers as they queue for a (more expensive) drink and can't find a table. Is it a great example of differentiated pricing or is it simply not fair? Stonegate Group - we'd love to help you reframe this! #dynamicpricing #pricingpsychology #knowyourcustomers
