“Nonprofits Can Become More Resilient by Spending More on Fundraising and Admin”. Very interesting article from researchers Telesilla Kotsi of The Ohio State University and Alfonso J. Pedraza-Martinez of University of Notre Dame. https://lnkd.in/enrkqa9r Thanks for sharing Sean Hale (and for a robust comment thread!) in your post below! #FundThePeople #FundingThatWorks #StaffingTheMission #TalentJustice
Want nonprofits to succeed? Let them spend more on admin! Does this surprise anyone? #nonprofit #overhead #OverheadMyth https://lnkd.in/gaEdXiJE
Non profit leaders know this and have been trying for years to have this message better understood by funders, boards, and donors. Its difficult to break the misconception that increased support for overall operations and fundraising doesn’t directly support our missions and better serve our communities. It does. Yes, our people are our programs! Happy to be seeing more articles like this recently.
As someone joining the nonprofit sector for the first time soon, I've been reading a lot about nonprofit financials and philosophy. The pride in low overhead confuses me because it seems to play into this idea that nonprofit workers shouldn't be paid well, and ignores how much budgeting, HR, technology, work environment, etc. impacts service delivery!
It's a great article. The more good people help raise awareness of this impediment to nonprofit impact, the faster we can leave behind the Overhead Lie.
