Why the First Monday in September Matters: The Story of Labour Day in Canada Every year, the first Monday in September is marked as Labour Day in Canada—a day with deep historical roots and profound significance. This date isn’t just a chance for a long weekend; it represents the culmination of a long struggle for workers' rights and fair labor practices. Labour Day traces back to the late 19th century, a period of intense industrial growth and labor activism. Workers, driven by the need for safer conditions, fair wages, and reasonable hours, organized strikes and rallies to demand better treatment. Their efforts led to significant reforms and laid the foundation for the modern labor rights we benefit from today. The choice of the first Monday in September for Labour Day serves as a symbolic end to summer and a celebration of the hard work and dedication of Canadian workers. It’s a reminder of the progress we’ve made and the ongoing commitment to ensuring fair labor practices for all. As we enjoy the day off, let's reflect on the legacy of those who fought for our rights and honor their contributions by continuing to support and uplift our workforce. Happy Labour Day!

I think the government shouldn't refuse the City Service Department's request for three days per week Work-From-Home(WFH). The government ought to counteroffer by granting them four days per week WFH with the condition. The civil servants expressed that the WFH is more efficient for them. On the other hand, Canadians call for cutting the red tape to improve the processing time of approving the site plan and building permit for building more homes. So, we can set up a new working platform for handling the site plan and permit by mainly proceeding with these procedures with the AI system instead of manually. All processing steps will be time-stamped and tagged with the respondent's name and can be reviewed by all relevant parties. Civil servants will take over and respond manually when the AI encounters difficulties. I believe this win-win measure can significantly improve our productivity and efficiency. Moreover, I think most civil servants over 55 would like this suggestion. The protest will melt down internally if a minister or mayor offers it. Marlon Bray
How about Canada's 6.6% unemployment rate? Working five days a week in the office is a standard expectation, and if you don't like it, you can choose to quit. Many qualified people are looking for work, and more are expected to join the job market. What's different now versus pre-COVID that makes it acceptable to work only three days in the office?

🎉 Happy Labor Day to our hardworking friends in Canada and the USA! 🌍 But did you know this day of rest has roots that stretch back to the 19th century and around the globe? Let me unpack the suitcase of history and show you what’s inside! 📅 Labor Day: A Quick Trip Through Time Back in 1882, workers in New York City didn’t pack lunches; they packed a protest, marching for better labor laws. This sparked a movement, leading the USA to mark the first Monday of September as Labor Day. Canada wasn’t far behind, taking a leaf out of the American book and starting their own celebrations. 🌏 Labor Day or May Day? While North America kicks back in September, much of the world parties on May 1st, known as International Workers' Day or May Day. It’s a global fiesta in countries from Argentina to Zambia, celebrating workers' rights and the spring season. 🗺️ Who Celebrates When? 📍USA & Canada: First Monday of September 📍Most of Europe, Asia, and Latin America: May 1st 📍Australia: Varies by region, but mostly in March or May 📍New Zealand: Fourth Monday in October 💼 Why It Matters Labor Day isn't just a day for BBQs and last beach trips; it’s a nod to the contributions and achievements of millions of workers. It’s a reminder of the power of unity and the ongoing journey for fair labor practices. 🚢 Calling All Freight Forwarders Whether you're arranging shipments in Shanghai or coordinating customs in Canada, today is your day to relax and refuel. Invest Canada serves primarily as a hype machine for the current regime in Ottawa. One need only look at the Liberal background of the organization's two most recent heads. The next government should probably reorganize Invest Canada in two ways:1-put an end to the partisan appointments at the top;2-have Invest Canada's mandate changed so that it reports not just the levels and sources of incoming FDI but also the levels and sources of outgoing FDI from Canada to other countries. As it stands, what we have is single-entry bookkeeping and Canadians deserve to have a more comprehensive picture of the incoming and the outgoing flows of capital in order to determine Canada's attractiveness as an investment destination.
The reason it’s hard to take Canadian business groups seriously about productivity is that they worry about it publicly, then lobby for policies like this one privately. Productivity in the streets. Cheap labour in the sheets. https://lnkd.in/gBTtph-J

There’s no better time to hire and invest in Canadian workers!” – PM Justin Trudeau. Trudeau emphasizes the critical importance of prioritizing Canadian workers, ensuring they receive fair opportunities while protecting temporary foreign workers from exploitation. Canada may also announce 📣 significant changes to high-wage LMIA-based work permits in the coming days. The PM’s message to employers is clear: “Stop complaining about labour shortages and hire Canadian workers.” Are we on the verge of major reforms to the Temporary Worker Program? 🤔 What changes can we expect for high-wage temporary foreign workers in the coming months? 💼

In less than three weeks, Labour Day will be celebrated worldwide and this has an impact on global logistics, as it is a national holiday in many countries. 🔔 In China, for example, Labour Day is celebrated from 1 to 5 May. This holiday is an opportunity to honour the achievements of the labour movement and reflect on the importance of workers' rights and working conditions. It is also a time when many Chinese people travel to celebrate with their families or go on holiday. During this holiday period, many businesses and government offices in China are closed, and there is often an increased demand for transport and other services. Our local IFB offices in China will also be closed during the festivities. In Germany and many other countries, 1 May is also a bank holiday on which our local offices will be closed. In addition, recent reports indicate ongoing disruption in the Red Sea, where the Houthis continue to carry out attacks despite the efforts of the US-led coalition. Peace talks between Israel and Hamas have stalled, further exacerbating the disruption in the region. As a result, large liners continue to avoid the Red Sea, opting for longer routes via the Cape of Good Hope. This is having an impact on transit times, particularly on routes between Asia and the Mediterranean, Europe and the US East Coast. Shipping companies expect to be operating at full capacity around Labour Day, so early bookings are recommended! #IFB #RedSea #LabourDay #ChinaHoliday #WorldwideHoliday #BridgingSupplyChainComplexity
