#READALLABOUTIT This paper written with a PhD student, Chante Johannes and other supervisors. This paper interrogated the #relationship #between #psychosocial #factors and #physical #activity #participation among #undergraduate #university students at a #HDI in #South #Africa. The most stand-out finding for me was how #physical #activity was #significantly #associated with #mental #health, such as #depression, #anxiety and #stress. I got a sense that these are messages we have been broadcasting, and not really taking stock of where they have been landing. This research therefore advocates that future research on mental health should consider #physical #activity #interventions as a #strategy for #coping with #mental #health #challenges amongst #undergraduate #students. #undergraduate #mentalhealth #physicalactivity

We share 99% of our DNA with chimps. The first book I read that opened my eyes to where we have actually come from was ‘The Story of the Human Body’ by Daniel Lieberman. This book is about evolutionary biology. It tracks the story of the human body all the way from the beginning of humans in Africa 6 million years ago, all the way up to now. It highlights the main reason we suffer from chronic pain & injury in this modern life, and the route to overcome it.
